I'm not very familiar with the whole goat-man thing.

I hear he lives near Lake Worth or something.

I'm going to assume it's just a story, but I was curious if any of y'all had heard of it.

And Pig man, Dogman, Lizardman, Mothman, Owlman....... and I'm sure I missed one of two...
CGunn
Ah.

I'm sure there's more.

I think that these kind of things put down cryptids that may actually exist. (ie: Bigfoot)

People here the obviously fake ones and then dismiss them all as fake.

Oh Well.

Heard of him?
I used to hunt for him! Back when I was a drunken teenager that is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goatman_(Maryland)

Never did find the elusive beast, but boy did we have fun scaring the crap out of our girlfriends while trying.
And of course the "cry baby bridge" at Lottsford Vista road was great for that too!
Ahhhh yes, those were the days.

Thanks for the ride down memory lane! thumbup.gif

edit: to fix my link that needed fixin.

Mkianni posted a link.

I've always heard of it living on an island in Lake Worth.

It sounds to me like just a story.

But y'all have probably heard the story of that white bigfoot said to live around there.

Maybe someone saw a weird, standing, white thing and said, "Hey look! It's a man-goat! Er, Goat-Man!"

A couple years ago, Discovery Channel showed a lot of Cryptozoology related shows. For some reason they don't anymore. Anyway, I saw several different episodes that mentioned gotaman. I just hope Monsterquest does an episode on it soon. That and mothman. That would be great TV!

I dont for one second suggest that I believe in any of these local legends, but agreed, it would potentially make for some entertaining TV.

Seriously? I hav e seen every episode thus far, but I don't remember a dogman. I have seen things about dogs, but not a dogman. Sounds kind of funny. coverlaugh.gif Is that supposed to be like a werewolf? Cause I did see that episode.
CGunn
Aha! yahoo.gif

I knew Goat-man was from Lake Worth.

I looked around and Goat-Man and the Lake Worth Monster are one and the same.

I posted the Maryland link since the sightings started there in 1957, so I figured that's where the legend got it's origin.

QUOTE(wiki Goatman Maryland)
Reports of the Goatman began in 1957, with sightings occurring in Upper Marlboro and Forestville, Prince George's County, Maryland.[4] From there, sightings spread to other states; with reports of the Goatman being made as far south as Texas in the 1960s, Washington and California during the 1980s, and as far north as Ontario, Canada and Cannelton,Indiana during the 1990s.

In all honesty though, if you guys have him down in Texas now, you can keep him. new_lmaosmiley.gif

edit to say
I actually just noticed in your wiki link that the Goatman from Texas has a different description.
Maryland's version is a half goat half man looking thing and the Texas creature is part man part gorilla. More like a Bigfoot I guess one could argue.

I guess we're looking at too different legends.
The section I read in the Maryland wiki link that says the sightings spread out to other parts of the country is what made me think it was the same creature with the same description.

I still say pigman is creepier

I've actually never heard of that one.
I ran a few searches and couldn't find any information on the "pigman" from NJ, or anywhere else for that matter.

I came up with a book that goes by the same name and a few other things but nothing that relates to a cryptid creature.

I thought the mothman was from West Virginia and the Goatman from Maryland? We just have the Benezette Banshee here in PA. coverlaugh.gif

You're right.
The moth man originated in Pt. Pleasant West Virgina.

Actually, Mothman has been around for ages. It has been seen and painted by man in caves. In the movie The Mothman Propecies, they said that, but I DID research it and it is true. Mothman has been around at least since cave paintings. Pt. Pleasant, WV is, I guess, the most recent and modern time Mothman has actually been showing itself.

Could this legend come from truth, the human body has some strange things that happen if there is continued inbreeding. I have seen this first hand in different areas of PA. The most extreme were brothers that looked far worse than this.

What an interesting photo! I note the presence of a sagittal crest and they both look like they can grow quite a bit of hair. Hard to tell how tall they are. The kicker though is the ears. Yep, they are definately inbreeding with bears. coverlaugh.gif

Pigmen, goatmen, dogmen.. dang I'm glad we have the Fouke Monster! I couldn't deal with all these other domesticated farm animal hybrid thingamajiggies! Let's not forget the Cowman of Copalis Beach... some farmers just know their animals far too well apparently. LOL (kiddingggggg)

Here's a thought. If inbreeding in humans causes bizare facial and body abnormalities can we assume that the same would hold true for Sasquatch?
