The premise of the movie was good. The rest of it was IMO gawdawful! Saw it on the big screen in 72-73? Just about the worst C movie I ever paid to see. Was typical of those low budget made in the deep South flicks that were common at the time.

I do remember seeing this film as a kid. Scary.
I think they need to do a modern re-make... Update the plot a little, to reflect the internet age.
I think a great title would be.... BlobSquatch: The Legend of Fuzzy Feet

MASTERPIECE!

This was a film I saw as a wee young child, and the reason my blinds are closed right now! It was a double feature with mysterious monsters (the first time I saw the Patterson footage!) and while that didn't scare me, the boggy creek monster surely did. My fear of Peekies was born that day.
I just got it in the mail from best buy yesterday (7.99 plus a couple of bucks shipping) and I am saving it for my day off. I just couldn't be more excited!

I know it's going to be hokey, but I'm thinking that revisiting this movie now might shake off some of the terror I felt as a child...sheesh...parents should think about that kind of stuff....
Bottom line is it doesn't stop me from going in the woods, and awoke in me a lifelong fascination with the subject.
Edit cause I am don't talk good sometimes. Edit to talk gooder.

What a great movie. Terrified me as a child as well, I saw it at the drive in with my cousins in Oklahoma. Needless to say we were all terrified for about a week. Yeah sure its hokey as pointed out but that adds to the nostalgic feel when watching it today. I too think it would be great if it were remade. Why not? They remade the Amityville Horror and its no gem. Like before I think if it had something at the beginning or end in writing stating that the film was based on real eye witness accounts it would add to the thrill for today's teens. They thought that the Blair Witch Project was scary and that was just plain aweful, some of them even took
that to be real at first do to the way in which it was filmed.
In any event, great post! Thank you very much!

It was just a coincidence that I decided around that time that I would keep my windows and blinds closed at night and sleep with the blankets pulled up over my head...

I guess I saw that movie when I was around 7 years old, scared the bejezus out of me. Went home that night and all I could think of in my room, when I was trying to sleep, was that scary fouke monster was in my closet. All of a sudden the closet doors start shaking badly, OMG it's true, the fouke monster is in my closet!....yikes! I jump out of bed and ran into the living room where my parents were, they say "hey did you feel that earthquake?".
Boy did I feel like a doof, yet relieved as that old fouke monster was not there.

When I was a boy we had no air conditioning. We had a attic fan and we would just open windows and let the cool night air in. No screens either. I used to lay my pillow on the window sill and sleep in the cool air the fan pulled in. I saw this movie and two others. Mysterious Monster and Sasquatch Legend of Bigfoot on Halloween as a triple play at the drive in with my family.
Not only did I not sleep with my head on the window sill anymore. I closed the window. Locked it. And moved my bed across the room. LOL I was about 9 years old at the time.

lol bigdave!
I just watched it again from the link above (thnx seph). Wow that movie is still kinda creepy eh? It seems that the fouke monster was kinda of agressive as portrayed in the movie, which seems different from alot of reports I've read. It seemed to seek out attention too. Strange also was that it had 3 toes. I wonder how acurate that was and the rest of the movie?
I did like the way it showed how secluded alot of people were back in the day so to say. No cell phones, hell no telephones and the next neighbor is 2 miles away....zoiks!
It does have alot of nostalgia as nightscream has said and I think a remake would be an excellent idea.

I don't even want to open the referenced YouTube clip, because I know it's that "haunting romantic ballad, a ballad of loneliness and mystery, a ballad of...". It's the damn ballad that I've never been able to get out of my head since when I saw the movie in the theatre those many years ago. I do have the movie on DVD and have watched it periodically, but I always try to fast forward through that damn song. I just wish the creature could have been singing it and had a dance number while doing so. Then it might have at least offered some comic relief.
Aaaarrrrggggghhhh! I'm hearing it again. Help me!

Sorry, I was referring to the other song you can't get out of your head - the "this is where the creature goes" song. Since I can't get on to YouTube from the office, I didn't know it was the Travis Crabtree song. That is also a song that sticks with you.

I hate to admit it but I never actually watched this movie until last night on youtube because of this link. I was thinking about buying this movie before because everyone always talked about how terrifying it was but I never got around to it. As a 27 year old I didn't find it very scary at all, but if I was 8 or 9 years old this would have terrified me,

so now I can see where y'all are coming from. The songs were...........you don't want to know my opinion on the songs.

LOL AlbertaSquatch... well a 29 y/o wouldn't think the movie was very scary, but you're behind the curve, a lot of us saw that when we were wee little shavers with monsters in our closets and under our beds kind of age. It scared the stew out of me. When I watch it now, it's like spending time with an old friend. lol

All I can say T is thank goodness I never saw this when I was a wee lad or I would still be having nightmares. The big bad blue wolf on Sesame Street used to scare the bejeezus out of me and gave me nightmares.

He still does. Although I also have an extreme fear of big yellow birds too.

Well... I'd have been less afraid if I didn't live so close to Fouke during the monster flap. The monster could have stuck a hairy paw through my bathroom window at night and been back in Fouke in time for breakfast. LOL

My two little nieces were staying with me a couple of years ago and kept yelling for a scary movie. Soooo, I put in this movie thinking I would scare the crap outta them. Their reaction was "it's only bigfoot, we want something really scary!". That just told me how far the world of terror movies has come in the past 30+ years. Made me sorta sad actually.

Hi
I hear ya Jaylee, With todays hi tech horror movies churning blood and guts with life like scenery it is hard for the old classics to keep up, I love the old TOHO Co. Japanese films, Besides the Godzilla stuff there was Attack of the Mushroom people, That was pretty scary at the time, It seems pretty lame these days, But i can see a day when movies will get so far out there folks will have to start looking back and start watching what went on in the 60s and 70s again,
Peace Tim

Agree totally Redratsnake. The 70's was a great time to be a kid and the movies were unforgettable. Even the ones that were cheesy had that "certain" quality about them that sticks in your mind and doesnt let go. I enjoy the old TOHO films and all of the Sasquatch documentaries and docu-dramas of that period. Hammer Horror,Italian horror,Spaghetti westerns..the late 60's and 70s were glorious times in music, filmmaking and all pop culture. I think todays CGI effects for the most part have destroyed movies. Things like character development, plot and cinematography are forgotten in favor of eye-catching and ear-splitting explosions and effects. CGI has its place but is being overused and the serious film fans are the ones that suffer. Peace.

I do too Bill...loved Boggy Creek. When I watch Boggy Creek or Sasquatch:The Legend of bigfoot(not the Marx crap)it just takes me back and I occasionally will get chill bumps. The 70's was such a great time to be a kid. I would love to see a decent Sasquatch film...been some time since I watched a real good one. There have been a few that were...almost watchable, but for the most part the latest bigfoot films have just been too over the top for my taste. Peace.

I'm going to have to watch it again myself before too long. Great movie!!!!
Do you have a favorite scene Bill? I love the kid with the gun thinking his dogs are running a deer coming up on BF as well as the scene with the girls in the trailer fumbling around and trying to load the rifle. But I think the scene that set the tone for me the first time I saw the movie as a kid was of the narrator (as a child) running to the store and telling the group of older men there about the creature that was scaring his family. I could imagine that being me since we lived in a remote area and my dad was away a lot.

The whole movie was amazing. Found it on DVD at WAL-Mart for $9.99 with a couple special features. When my step-son was about four, I had him and his sisters watch this movie. To make a long story short the scene when the guy was sitting on the toilet and the creature reaches in through the screen scared him so bad that he crapped his pants in the hallway outside the bathroom. The bathroom was empty, but he was too scared to go in. I still tease him about that to this day!! We made up a song about it and everything! The understated way that that movie was done made it so eerie. I suggested years later to a friend of mine to watch it and he complained that there was no profanity, no nudity, no gore, and most of all couldn't get past the fact that it was G-rated. But this flick didn't need any of that stuff. The proof of that is in the fact that we are still talking about it here and so are many other people everywhere else!!
