I came across this one I had not seen yet. From the 1920's. Walden is still very uninhabited, but tons of Elk and overall just a great hunting area. Moose up there too. I do have one other story about SAS stalking elk in southern Co in the early 1990's....its somewhere on the BFF in a different thread. Pretty rare to actually observe these thing stalking. Working in pairs would seem to make sense.

I've always though BF's would need to have some meat in their diet. To get to the size adults are a diet high in protein is a must.

Cool report. thumbup.gif

Goes along well with the footprints in the snow near the elk gut pile story too.

A very interesting report. I am curious of when the lady first heard of her father's encounter with bf. If it was before the coining of the term bigfoot in the 1950s it would lend some additional credence to the story in my mind.

bipedalist - could you do me a favor and point me in the direction of the elk gut pile story? I don't think I have heard that one. Thanks.

I personally think that all SAS/BF eat meat. Some more than others. Moose and Elk are not meat eaters and are huge, so there is enough food for something that big, if they are not meat eaters. I just have heard too many stories of them eating elk, deer, roade kill, etc. Plus the mule deer out here seem to be very stupid. You could almost hunt them with a knife!

It's pretty cool to hear/read story's from before the term "bigfoot" started.

Has there been any new activity in Colorado that anyone knows of?

Dougfoot -

There was a sighting that is not anywhere on the Internet. Happened last December south of Eagle very close to Yeoman Park. A young (23) woman and her boyfriend were cutting down an X-Mas tree and were hanging out after they got it to the car. She noticed the creature first on the hillside opposite of them (a western facing slope) She said she watched it for several minutes (I say it was more like 30 seconds) while it walked on this hillside swinging its arms. I asked her if it could have been a man in a brown coat. She said it was way too large for it to be a man and it was on a steep hillside, walking through 2-3 feet of fresh snow.

I'm just commenting on your song. That is the only reason I ever wished I would win the lottery (to buy and protect the lands I could) and the reason I support the spotted owl (I'm not that into that owl. I just wish it was cuter so more people would care about the habitat.) These forests are in danger. They are so far beyond the imagination of most people who don't have personal first person experience of them (kinda like a large primate I've heard of teehee.gif ) that they only see the dollars. That was a very very sad song.

I guess I love the trees. I love to hear them sing when the wind blows, I rest in their shade when the world is on fire.

You made me sad.

I have goose berries, currants and Peking cherries planted in my yard as well as Manchurian apricots. If BF is living off goose berries and currants then he/she is taking a heck of a lot of time eating. It takes a long time to get a significant quantity off the plant. I know people who are addicted to huckleberry-ing in summer and early fall. Same deal, an hour to pick a gallon of huckleberries. BF is supplementing his diet with more than native berries and vegetable items. So, I would have to agree that there has to be a pretty constant supply of protein and fat around to maintain size, as well as addressing body warmth issues in the winter.
