Hey guys...
In the last month or so, I've noticed that this site is easily the slowest I visit regularly. Has something in the setting changed relatively recently? I have mid-speed DSL, (about 2 mps) yet, at times it actually times out, and in every case, page loading and changing is slower then "normal" by far.
Not a gripe..but more of an observation. I do know from talking to others, that this is being experienced by a number of people(honestly..everyone I've asked privately!).
Anyway, just an FYI, in case it's a setting that can be fixed! I can't imagine what it would be like if I did not have high speed.

Wow.
I thought it was my computer acting up again.
I've seen this same thing come and go for about three weeks now.
I'm actually experiencing it tonight.

Been coming here for a while too, and I've noticed a definite decrease in speed of the site. The server is definitely sluggish for some reason. Seemed to start about a month or two ago. I've got a fast broadband connection and other sites load very quickly, so I know it's not a problem on my end.
I was about to start a thread mentioning the same thing... I'm glad someone else did it first and validated what I was seeing.
FYI.

LOL...You should live up here in the boonies where we don't have that fast of high speed internet. (2 meg is mid-speed?) We'd be very lucky to have 2 meg DSL up here! Most of the lines up here won't support that fast. Ahh...the joys of living in the sticks.
Seriously, I haven't noticed anything different. Weird.

We're going to check out the server load today. Good news is that in the not to distant future we're going to be upgrading the server this site is on (along with the Squatchopoedia, the BIP site, and the TBRC site). Not sure of the exact timing, but the current machine is getting a bit long in the tooth and is being asked to do many more things than it used to.
I'll keep you posted.

No, it's sometimes taking as long as 20 seconds or more to turn a page for me.
I've checked other sites, and for me, the problem only exists here.
I'm on high speed cable.

That may be a real bad sign. I just got my fastest load in weeks less than 10 seconds but I think
its because we are losing audience due to the slowness.

It's been slow for me as well and I'm on cable and running a new system. Just guessing, the lethargic performance could stem from either routine maintenance or DNS-related issues.
I'm sure there's nothing to worry about - we'll probably see an update soon.

Same here. I see threads I might be interested in but hardly click on them because I know it will take too long. I don't thing it has something to do with peak hours because I visit at all hours of the day/night and have the same issue every single time.

Slow is no longer the name for it, try archaic, measured in geologic time frames, sometimes connections are not made within minutes let alone a minute. It has me looking for other ways to
spend my time, which may not be a totally bad thing with this nice weather.

May 13 2008, 07:10 PM
Same here.
Sometimes a minute to refresh a page now.
Sometimes it wont refresh at all.
Error messages are becoming more frequent.
I used to think it had something to do with peak times, but the problem seems to be all the time.
Now it's either slow, slower, slowest, or the worst of them all.......... "it's so bad it's time to watch tv."
Just as before, nowhere else I go has ever given me any problems. Speeds are always lightening fast no matter what time of day.

I almost gave up up this thread as it took about a minute to load, and another minute to bring up the reply box (Irony can be sooo, ironic). After two tries. At 1:20 am CDT. Houston, there IS a problem.

I couldn't even get on the site last night to complain. I kept getting a timeout error every time I tried to load the page. This morning it took me 20 minutes and multiple tries before I could get this post in. I'm done bothering with it. Someone post a sign in the yard when it gets fixed.

Just to let you guys know, the server that hosts BFF was targeted by a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack in the past week, which is why we experienced some very slow load times.
The good news is that the server did withstand the attack and suffered no lasting damage.
I guess someone doesn't like this forum very much.

Thanks for the update Paul.
Is there anything that can done to stop this type of attack? If there is something that can be done but needs a cash outlay - I would be glad to send $20 to assist. I am sure many others would help out as well.

Today(June 10), I am waiting between 2 and 4 MINUTES for each thread OR post to open. That's ever time I click on something. Twice it never did open. I have moderately high speed DSL, 2-3 mps download speed..and this is the only site I have problems with and by far the slowest. I have this running in a separate window so I can go do other things while waiting for something to open. Once in a while it is ok..but I'd say it's very slow 80 percent of the time, at least. Any idea what is causing the more long term extreme slowness, as this has been going on for several months now?
