I've been fascinated by sasquatch for most of my life. I used to check out books from the school library about monsters back in Elementary school in the early 80's. in 1996 at teh age of 21 I had my own encounter which I have posted on BFRO and linked hear in the sightings section. Growing up in Oregon it's a topic nobody like to bring up, but everyone likes to talk about. I have yet to meet a person who personally hasn't encountered something or doesn't know someone (other than me) who has. I always approach it in a real casual laidback way, start by talking about a show I saw or something move into saying I've encountered some weird stuff while hunting, etc..etc... I've had people come over to me at a gathering later to quietly compare notes about something that's happened to them.
The one thing that Is interesting though to me, is that I never put any thought into what Bigfoot was. I mean it's just bigfoot right? A deer is a deer and a duck is a duck, but what is bigfoo? When I heard about the Gigantapithicus stuff, a few years ago, was the 1st time I really gave it much thought. At 1st the Giganto theory made a lot of sense, but as I've researched things further and further there are things that make me think that Hominid origin is more likely. PErsonally Bigfoot seems to me to be more humanlike in form than ape, of course being bipedal helps there. Something I've recently been thinking of though is the dispersion of Legendary bipeds. It seems that in general tehy encircle the Pacific ocean. Sure there are other,s but the most prolific are in North AMerica, along the Pacific Coast (BC, WA, OR, CA), China, Tibet, Malaysia , Australia and even New Zealand. What I find interesting about this is that these are the regions that Homo Sapiens Migrated to most recently in history, they are also all regions that Homo Erectus (aside from North America) were most recently active. There are certainly flaws to a theory of Homo Erectus surviving today as Sasquatch, teh main flaw being the aparent lack of tools used by Patty and her family members.
Now as I am researching more and posting this I think that Hominid doesn't fit well either. As if a new Tribe needs to be added to the Scientific classification. Ohh questions questions....
