In my month or so being on this forum I noticed that we have some real professionals here. People with real knowledge (and therefore real answers) to many questions. I know there is a Welcoming thread already, but I think we need a place where people with certain knowledge can let us know who they are and what they know so we know who to direct questions to sometimes. And unfortunately also who knows what they are talking about and who is full of....well you know. I have seen that we have several lawyers, an archeologist, anthropologist, primatologist, and others with technical knowledge. Also current and ex-military are also encouraged to post here. I got some really good information about thermal imaging from a couple of you guys already. You have real experience using equipment some of us would love to try in the field, so please post that information too.

Jason,
You are kind of swinging the brush in broad strokes (but maybe not braod enough). Just because you have a bunch of letters behind your name doesn’t make you any more an expert. I think some folks may just be a bit shy in regards to answering this in the way it is stated. To me it kind gives the airs arrogant. I know that was not your purpose, but I could see this thread getting shut down much like the Favorite Posters thread. You know how we all get. Some folks may not have all those letters or years of experiences or research, but their input may be just as valuable as any of the others.
I too have learned a great deal since I came here! And KUDOS to ALL for the knowledge they have imparted in me. I think if you reword your post a bit, you might get more responses. I too am in wonder what folks around here do, and have done, for a living.
Hope you don’t mind my advice here Jason, it is offered free and with the best intentions.

Jason, after reading your post here. It got me thinking a bit here, Scary thought in itself,
But you know, You are right about something, The
diversity of people here. Each one of them brings something to table of discussion here. If you take the time and just read, follow some of the discussions, and be patient. You can be rewarded here.
I think you can learn a lot from those who have been in the field of research of this subject. And I think any reasonable person can wade through the information and know what is true or not.
I work for a large retail office supply company. It sells computers, software, etc. I will be the first to tell you I am no expert in this field. However, for experience, reading, discussing with "knowledgeable" people, and some training. I have been able to help the Customers get what they want.
I consider myself a novice when it comes to computer knowledge. I have built 4 systems myself. Loaded the software. And been using them off and on daily. I have never stopped learning. I always seek advice and knowledge when I do not understand things.
So, Jason, you are right, there are People here that can help you in your quest for knowledge.

Right. I'm sure folks could comment on any particular expertise with which they might have experience without turning this into an "argument from authority" thread. As long as folks are aware that expertise and training doesn't make one correct all the time (hardly!), then I can see the value in it.
For what it's worth, the Saskeptic is an assistant professor in a wildlife department at a US university.
My sas-relevant expertise is probably in the area of wildlife inventory, including population estimates for rare species.

Oh Oh Oh...not right now, but maybe later.
I agree with Saskeptic that everyone can contribute to the field in many ways. I happen to be a post-doctoral fellow in molecular virology/microbiology at a US university. Thus, I can certainly help with analyzing DNA and molecular biology issues and issues relating to the Bigfoot infectious disease (Oh, I guess we're not there yet). However, as should be importantly stated, just because I have a PhD doesn't mean I know everything. I know a lot about some things, but I find that hanging out in the BFF I learn more information about a variety of topics than I probably did doing my entire thesis and dissertation.

Hum, guess I'm a blackbelt in googlefu and know just enough about everything to be dangerous, apart from that, B.Sc. pure and applied physics and rusty. A would be self-styled eccentric inventor and renaissance man, who wastes all his time inventing inconsequential (to the world at large) ways to keep the wolf from the door and all mod-cons working for the clan on $0 budget. Relevance to sasquatchery? I turn up and look interested.

That would kind of depend on what kind of stuuf you invent. If you have a bit of a 'techie' side that could help. Like if my idea about improving a trailcam had panned out. I couldn't even begin to start the modifucation.

I have been a research & development electronic technician for over 30-years with experience and interest in many areas of electronics. I have designed and repaired digital, audio and RF circuits, in addition to electronic lab instrumentation and mobile electro-hydraulic automotive/robotic control systems. For the past two years, I have served as the sound & vibration technician for the NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) group in my company’s R&D department.
I am also the president of a small corporation (employee of one) that designs and markets electronic accessories for sport motorcycles.

I’m not always right, but I try and get my facts straight before I open my mouth.

I love beer and chocolate, but not at the same time.
I'm an electrical engineer with 25 years of experience in designing hugely complex integrated circuit chips. If anyone thinks engineering is not science, think again! The only thing I bring to the table is that as part of my career I became interested in artificial intelligence and then studied up a lot on cognitive science. So that relates to how a bigfoot might 'think' or if it could have language. Also I'm a science enthusiast and have read all the good stuff by Gould and Dawkins, etc.
Other than that, when I lived in the Northwest, I did extensive backpacking and canoeing for miles and miles and miles in some really remote spots. That's where I first thought, hmmmm......., I can see how it could be possible for a creature like that to stay hidden, so just maybe......
