As 2007 comes to a close, what event(s), trend, or development do you think was the biggest bigfoot-related news (good or bad) that happened over the past 12 months?

Edited to add, if you can't think of anything bigfoot related, what about the field of cryptozoology in general?
Hominid,WA
Media wise, I'd say the Jacob's photos, and the MonsterQuest series. Also, though it hasn't been long enough to really tell, the Yeti news that came out recently was big in terms of the subject getting some exposure, having laid dormant for the past many years. IMO.
cryptidon
I'd go with the Jacobs Photos as well. You know you have arrived when you make Fox News.
Mon0705
The Jacob's photos obviously grabbed the most headlines, but not necessarily in the most positive way. Like HominidWA, I'm curious to see how these Yeti prints do. They have the potential to be extremely newsworthy, in a positive way.
Hominid,WA
I also forgot to mention Dr. Meldrum's paper on Ichnology and Sasquatch prints. That was a big step forward.

interesting new sasquatch thread, yes the jacobs photos made the news alot this year, monsterquest series, & other bigfoot stuff as well which conterversal. thanks bill smile.gif

I think the biggest news was that there was no news.

More money, more effort, more toys, more "expeditions," more camera traps, more cell phone cameras, etc. and all we got was more obvious hoaxes and the BFRO spinning a bear picture beyond all proportion.

Did anyone even document a single decent track this year- aside from the "yeti" tracks?

So if I've got to vote I'm going with Meldrum's peer-reviewed paper.

And I think the plethora of new species discoveries (or rediscoveries) was great for cryptozoology.

To me the 40th anniversary of the Patterson/Gimlin film was the most significant event. It served to re-emphasize the magnitude of their extraordinary achievement.
bf2004
I would go along with the last two items described, along with those damned Jacobs Photos (which are OBVIOUSLY a bear) and this latest development with the alleged Yeti Tracks as top Bigfoot stories of the year. The debut of Monsterquest is great for all cryptozoologists and cryptid enthusiasts, no doubt about that.

In the category of cryptids, I'd have to say it's the sneaky, apparent comeback of Barry Manilow--gone for twoish decades, and now showing up everywhere you look.
peteyweestro
I'd like to know what became of that night time trail cam footage of a supposed bigfoot , it seems to run down a bank and then looks like it goes over a log or something anyone remember this one

As a big Manilow fan from way back, all I have to say is everything old is new again (and, while his well-preserved visage suggests otherwise, that dude is getting really old).

From my warped perspective that the biggest things to happen Bigfoot related in 2007 is the fact that nothing has changed. It's about the people still, as much or more-so than it is the subject.

People still were friends or not, the same alliances and partnerships hold true or not. Pretty much the same as every other year.

People still presented as evidence things based on a lack of details that seems, as always, to be 'fact' based more on who said it, than what is actually presented.

People still used the "Patterson film can't be faked or Bob Gimlins honesty" , as the argument of choice when you can't present anything else to validate your reasoning on a totally unrelated subject. The film though after 40 years still proves nothing, and I have a strong feeling that on the 50th anniversary it still won't , same as on the 30th anniversary.

People still used "Apples and Oranges" is as a comparative analysis tool for differentials in a subject when you can't get your point across , or can't understand the point of the other person. Conveniently it seems to have been long forgotten that both are still fruits.

People still did bad research , who previously did bad research

People still discussed the subject in the media who obviously shouldn't be.

People still blamed the media when saying something stupid in print or on camera. Funny how it never seems to be the fault of the person doing the saying.

People still posted poorly hoaxed or misidentified videos on Youtube , that some think interesting and others think are crap.

People still reported sightings with varying degrees of believability.

People still sometimes believe some of those reports.

People still sometimes don't.

People still saw things that aren't there.

People still missed things that were.

And the biggest.....

People still didn't find proof, other than personally , for the existence of Bigfoot.

Blimey Jim - if you hate bigfoot research and researchers that much, why do you even bother?

BTW: I disagree with you about the PGF - I think we know more about the film than we did on the 30th anniversary - not a whole lot more I agree, but we *do* know more about it.

Can you elaborate? What facts have come forward in the past 10 years that weren't already known in the previous 30?

Don't recall saying I hated anyone.

But all anyone has to do is read the forum to see that there is not a thing on my above list that to some degree or another isn't true. As to why I bother, I have my own reasons for doing so , same as everyone else. some people just have better reasons than others.

A good friend of mine told me you learn way more about people than bigfoot in this field and this year like all the others...that still holds true.

Howzabout the popularity of Bigfoot as an advertising icon in 2007? Just think of the Jack's Links, Coldstone Creamery, and Jeep ads this year. Unlike a lot of high-priced Hollywood spokesmen, I get the feeling Bigfoot doesn't get any residuals.

And BTW, I think I'd be more terrified of running into Barry Manilow in the woods at night than I would Bigfoot.

I haven't been here long, but I would have to say the best thing to happen to Bigfootdon in the last year is all the new people interested in the subject. The youger generation may not have the experience and knowledge of the subject than the ones who have been in it for years, but they have a better grasp of the newer technologies. Also obviously what has been done in the past isn't working too well, it is always good in these circumstances to get new ideas and keep it all fresh. Somewhere sometime someone is going to provide the 'missing link' to all this and real progess will be made. Someone else might make the actual discovery, but it will be all of us behind that person's success.

As well as a grocery store that's big in this part of the country. I haven't been able to think of anything that struck me as "big" to add to this thread, but imho this is the best one yet! thumbup.gif

I would have to say the Jacobs pictures and the DNA samples they got at Snelgrove was a important part of the year. I hope they stay at least a couple of weeks this time instead of 4 days. The Monster Quest series is getting people more interested in cryptology.

2 important aspects of 2007 was both the Chelan pics and the Expert4u's
Harrison Hot Springs pics. Did they turn out to be BF's, no, but especially the
Harrison pic, some of us thought we got the real thing, actually in both pics.
However thru mutual cooperation with people who may or may not have known
each other, quality non-accusatory investiagtions were done both on the photos
themselves and on the ground. Sure they both turned out to be non-squatches
but look at what we learned via the investigation process all via the virtual
world.

my 2 cents

Here are five that I could think of:

-The Jacobs photos proved conclusively that an animal not unlike the sasquatch--known to locals as the "bear"--exists.

-The 40th anniversary of the P/G film came and went, with supporters clinging to their argument of "Look at the blah blah blah blah..." and skeptics to their argument of "Yeah, but look at the blah blah blah blah..."

-The ghost of Grover Krantz haunted many a bf expedition, causing those present to feel an eerie pall of "grumpiness and curmodgeonry, but a little respectability" descend upon them.

-The image of sasquatch was used to sell products that similarly cannot be confirmed as being real.

-Loren Coleman's credibility was given a boost when only one or two of the many, many species of hairy bipeds he included in his Guidebook were sighted; the rest--as many researchers had already hypothosized--continued to remain huddled together inside a cave inside his imagination.

All in all,i think another year of no real clearcut answers.I am glad to see new and continuing interest and documentaries made, and hope with each passing year, new technology will help with the hunt.On the flipside,if Bigfoot is proven to be real, will that take some of the enjoyment out of squatching, since alot of the fun is the evidence gathering and research?Afterall if its proven to be real,it will be just another animal.I was initially happy with the Jacobs photos, but i really believe, judging by the creatures short stubby feet,it IS A BEAR!

Actually, was 2007 the media year of the Sasquatch or what? We had him on TV advertising a number of products, Jack Links being the most prevalent, but I seem to think there were about 6 or 7 different commercials for various products, not all in the US. Then while grassroots reports seemed down on average, we seemed to get more intense news-media coverage of bigfoot and related incidents.

Is this good or bad? I don't know, seems to me it could actually be bad, bigfoot kinda slipping into the psyche as a subliminial "fact", meaning they're reaching the status of "everyone knows" they're out there. Hence the public at large kinda feeling less imperative to "report" sightings in any way, just lauging about them with their friends. This of course makes things difficult for researchers, in two ways. One we don't get the reports, two, the subject also gets taken even less seriously by the public at large, not because it's any more "ridiculous" but more because it "doesn't matter".
