I got to see the "World Premier" of "Southern Fried Bigfoot" at the TX Bigfoot Conference. Wow, I think everyone will love this documentary.

As posted at the conference:

"Southern Fried Bigfoot" is an independently produced documentary that explores the legends, tales and possible reality of the hairy monsters that are purported to live in the wild areas of the South."

It was very good, discussing the "Fouke Monster", the "Skunk Ape", the "Honey Island Swamp Monster', and the "Lake Worth Monster".

Some of the people interviewed that I recognized were Craig Woolheater and Chester Moore, Jr.

I wasn't sure if this documentary was going to be sold as a DVD, or if it was going to end up on one of the cable tv networks.

hey pywacket i sure hope southern fried bigfoot comes out on dvd in near future. bill thumbup.gif
Southern Fried Bigfoot
All:

Thanks for the kind words, and thanks as well to Craig Woolheater and the TBRC for giving us a chance to screen "Southern Fried Bigfoot" to an audience for the first time.

As for seeing "SFB" on DVD, we're currently shopping it around to both broadcast and DVD distributors. We've actually already received offers for both, but since both myself and the crew have invested a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in the project, we're proceeding cautiously as we review all proposed offers. Once we've made a decision, news will be posted on the official SFB website and SFB's Myspace page.

The eventual DVD release will probably have approximately thirty minutes of extras and deleted scenes.

I'm a little late in posting it, but the good folks at The Documentary Channel featured an article on SFB just a few short hours before it premiered at the 2007 Texas Bigfoot Conference: http://www.documentarychannel.com/main/content/view/187/1/

And speaking of the premiere, there are a few pictures of it posted on the SFB MySpace page.

Hope to report something soon on where you can see "Southern Fried Bigfoot" next.

The SFB movie was thoroughly enjoyable, and I am glad to have been part of the 'world premier' audience! Great job, SFB! thumbup.gif

It was great - tasted like chicken.

Time for an update and a shameless plug: We're still trying to finalize a distribution deal for "Southern Fried Bigfoot." In the meantime, however, "SFB" has been entered into a number of film festivals. We'll find out which ones it's been accepted into over the next few weeks.

One fest that it's already been accepted into is the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival being held in Florence, Alabama. "SFB" will be screening at 2 pm Thursday, March 6, 2008. Most of the screenings and events at the festival are free and open to the public. More info on the fest, the films screening there, and its schedule can be found at http://www.lindseyfilmfest.com/screenings2008.html.

Southern Fried Bigfoot
As Bill Green kindly mentioned above, there's finally some news to report on the status of "Southern Fried Bigfoot."¯

After spending over a year trying to nab a distribution deal, I'm happy to announce that "SFB" will have its broadcast premiere on The Documentary Channel on April 13, 2009 at 9pm Eastern/8pm Central. DOC is carried on DISH Network, Channel #197. More info on The Documentary Channel can be found on the network's official website.

We're still trying to nail down a national DVD distribution deal so that we can hopefully get the documentary in stores and into such outlets as Netflix. In the meantime, however, DVD copies will be sold on The Documentary Channel's online store. They should go on sale around the same time as the broadcast premiere.

We'll be announcing some more news about "SFB" as we get closer to April, and my deepest thanks to everyone who's emailed me about its status over the last few months.
billgreen2005bigfoot

Southern Fried Bigfoot
eerietube.com, "a hip new space where you can check out the latest in horror and sci-fi news, as well as view original content directed by some of horror's most innovative directors," has just posted a sneak preview clip of "Southern Fried Bigfoot."

The clip is from "SFB's" first segment, entitled "Bigfoot in the South?," and can be found on eerietube's "Webisodes" page.

Click the seventh tube from the left and then hit the "View Now" tube to see it.

eerietube also has some really spooky horror shorts featured on the same page. Just FYI, there is a posted disclaimer that some of them are recommended for mature audiences. If you like scary stuff, you're in for a good time.

Just as a quick update, there will be an article about "Southern Fried Bigfoot" in Issue 18 of the critically-acclaimed comic book series "PROOF." Written by Alex Grecian and illustrated by Riley Rossmo, "PROOF" follows the exploits of a secret agent who just so happens to be a Sasquatch. The series has a strong cryptozoological bent, and the title character has come into contact with and/or run up against thunderbirds, African dinosaurs, the Dover Demon, chupacabras, and an ancient Yeti, just to name a few.

Issue 18 is due to go on sale Wednesday, March 25 from Image Comics, and it can be found at comic and specialty stores across the nation.

Southern Fried Bigfoot
Hey, Bill: Our broadcast deal is exclusively with The Documentary Channel, so that's the only place it will be airing network-wise for the time-being. Likewise, the only place to get the DVD right now is The Documentary Channel's online store, and the SFB DVD should go onsale there sometime next week. However, the DVD is also going to eventually be sold on Amazon.com at some point in the very near future, but I'm not sure of the exact date yet. I'll be sure to post it here when it's been locked in stone. Thanks!

All:

As Loren Coleman kindly noted in a recent Cryptomundo post, in addition to DISH Network, The Documentary Channel's programming can also be seen in the following cities and on the following networks:

New York
NYCTV Channel 25
Monday 9pm - 12am EST
Saturday 11am - 2pm EST

Nashville
Comcast Digital Cable Channel 241 or Charter 176
6pm - 6am CST

For some reason, CableVision does not carry WNYE! I thought PBS was 'must carry'. They do carry WNET, WLIW, and WNJN.

b/t/w, the newspaper says SFB is on for only 1 hour: 9-10.
Skip-n-Bit
Just checked our DISH Network guide on the tv and saw that the Documentary Channel (197) is showing it at 11 p.m. CST.

Southern Fried Bigfoot is now available at the Documentary Channel Store.

"The production values and cinematography are terrific, the re-creations are well-done and the entire package is absorbing. I highly recommend you check it out.” - Alex Grecian, writer and co-creator of “PROOF”

The American South has its own unique traits, people, cuisine, and way of life, and according to some people, its own monsters. While many have heard the legends of Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest, the stories of the “boogers, swamp devils, and skunk apes” rumored to prowl the backwoods and bayous of the Southern US aren't as well known.

With commentary from believers, skeptics, and the open-minded, "Southern Fried Bigfoot" explores the legends, tales, and possible reality of these hairy monsters. Are these stories just myths or misidentifications, or could there actually be something unknown watching you from the dark shadows of the trees…? (60 minutes, 2007)

The DVD includes 45 minutes of extras and deleted scenes.

I have cable; couldn't find SFB. sad.gif

I'm slightly embarassed to say that I didn't watch this when it was aired at the TBRC Conference in 2007 as I was gossiping to someone (can't remember who now), but I did watch it this morning and enjoyed it immensley.

The production itself is first class, the editing is especially good.

I've seen a lot of bigfoot-type documentaries over the years, and it is fair to say that most of them are pretty much the same, but this was somewhat different, and takes you on a tour of all the best-known monsters in the South.

Well worth watching.

All:

Just as an update, I was informed yesterday that due to a last-minute scheduling change, the afternoon programming originally scheduled for today and tomorrow (4/18 and 4/19) on The Documentary Channel won't be airing this weekend as originally planned, and yes, that includes today's airing of "SFB." I was promised updated airdates asap and as soon as I have them, I'll post them here and on the official SFB site.

I've gotten a lot of phone calls and emails this week from people trying to find "SFB," so just to clarify: the only place to find it is on The Documentary Channel, carried nationwide on DISH Network (Channel 197). DOC isn't currently carried by DIRECTV, and it looks like the only basic cable channels that carry DOC's programming are Comcast Digital Cable Channel 241 and Charter 176, both of which are based in Nashville and carry DOC's feed from 6 pm to 6 am.

DOC's programming can also bee seen on NYCtv Channel 25 in New York, on Monday nights from 9 pm-12am, and on Saturdays from 11am-2pm. Finally, DOC is also carried on KPDI PBS Channel 12 in Denver, seven days a week.

The Documentary Channel is really neat network that shows a wide variety of documentaries, and they're trying to get picked up by other cable/satellite carriers. They currently have a petition to get carried by DIRECTV on their website and it can be found here.

Thanks!

I watched this show the other night on the Documentary Channel, I had completely missed this thread so was unaware of the movie. I happened to find it while searching through the guide and must admit to tuning in expecting a kind of tongue-in-cheek cheesorama.....I was very wrong, I must admit to thoroughly enjoying the show and seeing some old familiar faces in it.....I DVR'd it so the missus can catch it and will most likely be snagging the DVD in the near future to get the extras that weren't on the Doc Channel version.

Well done, and very enjoyable. If you get the opportunity, definately worth the time to watch...Thanks
Southern Fried Bigfoot
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words above.

To give everyone an idea of what to expect from some of the Extras on the "SFB" DVD - shameless plug; it's onsale now on The Documentary Channel's online store and will also be available sometime this summer on Amazon.com - we've posted one of the them online.

Entitled "North Vs. South," it's about the alleged differences between the Bigfoot creatures of the Pacific Northwest and those of the Southern US. It features Craig Woolheater, Loren Coleman, Dr. Vaughn Bryant, Ph.D., and Chester Moore, Jr. It can be found on YouTube here. If you have a fast Internet connection, click on the HQ button to watch the clip in high quality.

Enjoy!

Wow I would like to see this. There is a Honey Island Swamp part I see. I hunt, fish, and boat that area and I will tell you there is nothing BF related there. Wish there was. That place is jam packed with hunters and fishermen. No one ever has mentioned Bigfoot except one family. Yep the family of the guy (Ford) that claimed to have seen something back in the 60s. They keep the story going, which is fun and the guy really may have seen something back then. But as of lately, past 30 years, nothing. The swamp tour boats travel the most populated areas of that swamp all day everyday. They too like to feed the Swamp Monster story out to the folks on board. IF there will be a Bigfoot in this area I think it will be passing through and a bit more to the north. The Pearl River System is what makes up this swamp. I think more north on the river up around Bogalusa would be the best bet. This area has farm land to the east and hard piney woods to the west. The swamp at this area cuts right through the two. It is less hunted than down south where the river crossed Interstate 59 and Interstate 10.
