Hello Folks,

I need your collective help. I have been searching for years to identify a movie and hopefully find a copy of it somewhere and I do not remember the name, only the effect it had on me as a child.

I have spoken via live chat with Paul1968UK and he suggested I put as much as I can remember here and he was sure someone would go "Oh thats *** movie, !" and the mystery would be solved.

ok, I saw this movie in the heyday of BF movies, the 1970's.

It was presented in docu-drama style. There were four possibly five vingettes in this hour and a half film.
The scene I rememeber most, and had the biggest affect on me was the Ape Canyon reenactment.

A group of researchers/hunters were in ape canyon, throughout the day they had heard noises and such, but no sightings. Late in the day, the noises picked up, and eventually stopped. They went to bed. One man was sleeping with his head below a window. the shot was from below, looking up past the man sleeping at the window, suddenly a huge hairy hand appears, crashing through the window, it grabs the unsuspecting man by the head and "bang bang bang" slams his head against the wall! mayhem breaks loose, rocks and being thrown on their cabin at the base of a cliff from above, BF's are banging on the walls fromt he outside, beating on the door, yowling and screaming. (I have no idea what happened at this point, having screamed myself, thrown popcorn high into the air and fallen to the gum and soda soaked floor to cower)

There are a couple of other scenes I think were in this same movie but I am not 100% sure they were in this one or another, but I am positive that the scene I described was in it.

I am not 43 years old and to this day I cannot sleep with my head under a window, emotional scars heal slowly apparantly smile.gif

A few other details:

This WAS a theatrical release, I saw it in a movie theater in Hendersonville, NC USA in the mid 1970's.
It was NOT Boggy Creek, I have that movie and have checked.
It is NOT In Search Of, again, this was in a theater.
It was not a "Big Budget" affair with any known "stars".
I know this scene may have been recreated in other films, and would appreciate any/ all suggestions, but it would make my day if someone knows the exact movie I'm speaking of in this case.
Unfortunately I will not be able to say "Oh Thats It!" until I see the scene again, but I would really appreciate the help in finding out where to look. I have been through the posts on this site about BF Movies and none of the ones listed ring true to what I am looking for. If someone is sure of this movie and can possibly video capture this one scene and email it or post it somewhere for me to see, this mystery could be solved smile.gif

I need to find this thing, so I can finally prove to my wife why our bedroom furniture is arranged in such an awkward fashion.

Thanks so very much.

Sounds like "Sasquatch - The Legend of Bigfoot (1977)"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078203/

It scared the heck out of me too!

Edit to say, some sites show the movie being released as early as 1975, some say 1977 and some say 1978. Also, do you remember a scene from the movie with these guys setting up trip wires around their camp? For some reason that sticks out in my feeble memory. Oh, and I remember the cabin scene with the rocks raining down from above.

Yes, the trip wire thing, maybe with cans or something tied to them, sounds right as well
JayleeD
I seem to remember the trip wires were attached to this box thingy and when they turned it on, it made this clicking sound.
Yetifan
Yeah, the trip wire thing was definately in "Sasquatch - The Legend of Bigfoot".

Was it Mysterious Monsters?

Join your host Peter Graves, as he attempts to answer that question in The Mysterious Monsters - one of the most fascinating documentaries ever filmed. You'll hear eyewitness accounts from ordinary people who have encountered the legendary monster... and you'll see them recall their tales while under hypnosis, or attached to a lie detectors. You'll see scientists subjecting samples of Bigfoot evidence to intense scrutiny. You'll thrill to hair-raising reenactments of actual Bigfoot encounters. Even the famous "Patterson film" is analyzed in detail by experts.

Orygun, it's not that bad of a movie. Sure, it's got its hokie moments, but overall a pretty good movie if one is interested in sasquatch.

This looks like a perfect movie for rifftrax.
Squatchfoot
I love the film..perfect period piece. A slice of my childhood. Wasnt growing up in the late 60's and 70's absolutely the greatest time to be a child? By the way, most of the great Sasquatch documentaries can be found on YouTube..just have to look. I dont think they really want us to post the links..just do a search and you can find most. Hint: Type in the name of the film and then something like; Part 3 usually will work. Peace.

Okay, I found the movie you're looking for and it's on utube. It's called the Legend Of Bigfoot. The part you're talking about is part 4 of 10. It's the story told by the old guy Josh who's a mountain man sort of thing. He tells the story of a group of goldminers who are visited by some sasquatch. They're in the cabin at night sleeping when one sasquatch put its hand through the window and grabs the one guy's head and smashes it against the wall. The miner wasn't hurt that bad in the incident, but the group of sasquatches harass the men all night long. The miners go outside at daybreak and discover that tons of rocks had been thrown at the cabin and are all scattered around the property. Along with that they discover footprints in the dirt that are eighteen inches long. So look on utube for that video, the whole movie is there, but the quality isn't that great. Hope I helped you out there.
Squatchfoot
If any of you want the YouTube links to some of these documentaries..I have a few. Just drop me a PM and I will send them to ya. Yeah, gotta love ole mountain man Josh. What a great old film that was! Sure,it is cheesy at times but it is just the sort of documentary that hooked a many of us 70's kids on Squatching!

this might have been In search Of, but I remember a cabin scene where at the end they open the door and one of the creatures was standing right there ! The scene just faded out right there and was so scary. Legend Of Bigfoot might also have been it. It was about the ape canyon incident. Do you remember when they opened the door? The 70's was definitly the best time to be a kid. I'm 39 and remember all that stuff, too. Boggy Creek, Creature From Black Lake, and all the other stuff sure delivered. Absence of 'showing' the monsters back then really got you scared.
Just_reading_posts
I didn't remember it as a cabin but I remember some guy opening the door and it is standing right there. I never knew if it faded out or what as I was too busy hiding behind the couch just as he opened the door. I would like to find that one just to see if I can still fit my big butt behind the couch...er I mean to see what happens.
bf2004
The scene where the guy opens the door and one is standing there is from The Mysterious Monsters (AKA Bigfoot: The Mysterious Monster).
Just_reading_posts
I'm gonna have to run that one down. It scared my bahookey off.
gbone34
I'd like to see a list of all those 70's documentaries, anyone have one, or know of a site that is not too full of other stuff?
bf2004
Here is a short list of the documentaries:

The Mysterious Monsters (AKA Bigfoot: The Mysterious Monster)

Bigfoot: Man Or Beast? (20-Minute Newsreel, later combined with Robert W. Morgan's In Search of Bigfoot)

In Search of Bigfoot (Robert W. Morgan) (AKA Bigfoot: Man Or Beast?)

In Search Of... (Bigfoot, Swamp Monster, Monster Hunters and The Abominable Snowman)

Manbeast: Myth or Monster

Monsters: Mysteries or Myths

The Legend of Boggy Creek was more of a docudrama than a true documentary, so it would not count as a documentary. Same with Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot.

Great List.

I'm with you! I got my copy of Bigfoot: Man or Beast from Bijouflix and I became ADDICTED!

I need help. I'm not too proud to admit it.

Great forum!!

I noticed several posts back you mentioned the trailer for Sasquatch movie 1977 was listed on Youtube. It has been removed. Did anyone save this? From what I gathered, the excellent scenes in the trailer were NOT in the movie. So the trailer would be a great little gem to get hold of.

Thanks
