Has anyone else ever had this happen...

Standing near a hillside. Dusk has fallen, limited light available, but you make out a fleeting glimpse of something tall and dark on the hillside above, just near the treeline. It is only a moment and you can't decide what it is you saw. Too tall for a bear, wrong color and shape for elk. A man? wearing all dark clothing an not carrying a flashlight? possible...arg!

I hate it! Went back the next morning and not a clue to be had.

darn.

ps, I dont' expect a whole lot of conversation on this, but I just had to vent my frustration...what if it had been lighter? Was the "thing" there earlier? like I said...darn!

Kinda off the subject, but have you ever been sitting in a room and thought something just stepped out of the doorway as you looked up? It's happened to me several times. Spooky! unsure.gif

Yea, especially at night. That's when I get up and turn all the lights on.

I agree!
jimf
Yes,yes and yes.I've done that before.Seen something and later found it not there, with no evidence as to what it was.Bear, moose, deer, whatever (bigfoot I think at least for me ,is on the outside of possibility for what causes shapes in the dark.)

Not really off topic SB.Both have a lot to do with vision.Sometimes it is our minds playing tricks on us.Other times it is because there is something there, and our vision can sometimes pick up the most minute movements as part of a defense mechanism. Its cool to think about it,but creepy also.Think about this. What do we not see that is there ? you could go mad with that one. icon_stressed.gif new_evil.gif

I have a good story about that. I worked at a small communications company in Virginia Beach where that happened several times in the doorway of a back workshop, to the point that I was getting up to see who just left the doorway. I later found out that several coworkers had the exact same experience. In all cases it was a fleeting glimpse of a short woman in a black robe with a hood. Very strange!!!

I can think of very few explanations that can be explained by science! new_evil.gif icon_blob.gif new_evil.gif

Me and someone else were having a similar conversation in chat. How sometimes certain events or places just feel odd or wrong somehow.Mostly smaller or "dying" towns.(yes I know who I was talking to,but I'll let them speak for thier ownselves . icon_mrgreen.gif )

Shorebreak, what you wrote about the lady in the robe and hood brought back memories. I had a very good friend that used to swear she saw Shadow People. She pretty well described what you did only would insist it was male icon_stressed.gif . I used to think she wasn't running on all 8 cylinders. She said she used to see these dark shapes that had on robes, no faces, just a black silloette of a person. One night I was surfing some sites and came upon a link for Shadow People. Unbelievable how many people have claimed to see the same thing. icon_stressed.gif

Oh yes! I hate it when that happens. unsure.gif

If you've ever watched the movie 'Ghost' you'll have seen these shadow people yourself. They drag the bad guys away after they die. For the life of me I can't figure out how they were able to capture those black blobs on film....

I had an experience a couple years ago that seemed spooky at first, but was easily explainable.

I had worked a midnight shift, and after work had gone to a friend's house. After a couple of hours, and being VERY tired, I hopped in my car for the drive back to my house, rolling down my window to help keep me awake. I'm travelling along a straight stretch of highway, feeling very sleepy, when what looked like a huge white goat ran across the road from right to left, some distance in front of my vehicle, and vanished as it got to the side of the road. It snapped me awake pretty quickly, and as I passed by the area where the 'goat' had disappeared, there was nothing. No goat, no horse, no nothing. There was no area for an animal the size of a goat to hide as the bush was not very thick, and I quickly scanned the surrounding area. Just as I was wondering, 'what the *(&$ was that?', I noticed some kleenex balled up on the dash in front of the steering wheel that was occasionally fluttering in the breeze. I realized that the 'goat' was nothing more than my sleep-deprived, near comatose brain, combining the movement of the car with the fluttering kleenex to produce what appeared to be a white goat.

I hate it when that happens too. One of the reasons I keep all of my lights on till I got to bed at night. unsure.gif

Then I have my night lights on after I go to bed in case I have to get up during the night. laugh.gif

That was a great story RayG. It's cool that you were able to figure out what actually occured. I always wonder how many ufo sightings are something like that. I think its very possible that bigfoot exists and I totally believe in ghosts and that type of activity but I just don't believe in aliens. I just have no internal data that allows me to believe it. I also believe in white kleenex goats. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Friday and Saturday night I was sitting in my den and I caught a flash of something walking by my patio door. Both times I got up and looked....nothing there. Then last night, I saw it again.

This morning I finally walked back there and 2 feet from my back door are these HUGH deer tracks. I don't know why they are coming so close to the house, but at least I know now that I was seeing things. biggrin.gif

Buncha skeerdy cats, afraid o' the dark laugh.gif

Face your fears, go out for a walk down a dark wooded lane at
midnight and then just stop and listen for a while. Amazing what
you WILL see doing that. Still one of my favorite things to do,
esp in sparsely populated areas....

Yeah but Howling are you in full military garb and packing heat when you do that??? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Now, I did go out for a midnight run Saturday night. I was with another couple of people and we were riding ATVs, but I was still out in the deep dark woods. We did stop and sit in the dark for a while. Had owls all around us tearing up the trees. Pretty cool.

At least, I think they were owls. icon_eek.gif

Actually LL, I never got much of a chance to do that while in the service,
attention was a lot more focused on the immediate issues wink.gif

Actually the first time I ever took a late night stroll was with a naturalist
(and quite the cutie) when I was in the 6th grade, and I've been smitten
with the night ever since. That was in the coastal mountains between
Monterey and Frisco.

These days I make it a point to get out whenever I can get a little time
away, preferrably after midnight. Jaylee, you've made my point for me,
animals become very active after dark, if you're patient there's no telling
what you might see (or hear icon_eek.gif ). I'll admit the adrenalin rush is part
of it, I like to get spooked a little bit wink.gif

I have not ruled out the fact that my eyes were "playing tricks on me" for lack of better term. I go walking at night frequently. It's the only time I really have to myelf. So from my perspective, the time when objects are going to appear to be something they are not, is around dusk. It's just light enough for something to appear "odd", but not dark enough to shine a light on it for clarification.

Not really sure where I was going with this, my train of thought has left the station without me again. Let me know if I made a point. I am going for more coffee.

Basically, I am pretty sure I was agreeing with Jim.
