My wife and I are building a home. A 17 year old kid down street is escalating his petty vandalism of our property. It started with litter and burn outs on our driveway. I am afraid that soon his work will cause real damage. His parents are aware as is the community security force. I was thinking a game cam would be an excellent idea. What do you think? What models would you recommend and how would your hide them? I appreciate any help.

Sounds like you might want to get a better one that can shoot video as well as stills. On a construction site I would think of a lot of hiding places for one. From a trash pile to painting it to look like something else like a brick or something.

I can not understand the parents knowing and it still going on. When I was young if my parents would have found out I was doing something like that I might still not be able to sit down. My kids know very well while they was growing up that if they got in trouble they would much rather the cops catch them then me. Sure I done bad stuff and so did my kids, But messing with peoples stuff is just something you should not do.

Damn kids now days just have no respect for people or their stuff. Still to this day I would hate to have my parents learn I done something stupid like what is happening to you. At 43 I am a little old to get a good butt whipping lol but just to see the look in their eyes would be enough to break my heart.

My kids are 23/22 and 20 and none of them have ever been in trouble with the law or anything besides traffic tickets and such. I would say I could count on one hand the number of spankings the 3 of them got over the years. But they know if it was called for it would happen and that was the main thing they needed to know. And if it was needed they got a very long talking to before and after explaining why it happened and just how much it hurt me as much as them.

If his parents know they should have him "arrested" and spend a day in the local jail house.

That can be a cure-all for would be criminals.

Here's one I found with a quick look at walmart.com. It's not really cheap (but, if you're building a house, the cost of this item is negligible stacked against your overall cost), but it IS infra-red so day or night shots are good and there's no worry about a visible flash.

I would advise putting together some type of camo for it though. Maybe using some sort of utility box connected to your temporary power pole that would make it look like nothing interesting. It's a thought anyway.

Thanks for the replies folks. It's really frustrating. When I spoke to the father about his son, he feigned surprise that his little spawn could do anything other than sing hymns and assist old ladies. All the while, I know for a fact that the kid is regularly in trouble in the neighborhood. I would have been so shamed if my father would have had to answer for my behavior.
So, in the meantime, I think I will order this camera and place it on the shipping container you see on the right side of the lot.
I really appreciate the help.

Here's what I did in a similar situation. Loaded my 12 gauge, waited for the little asswipe to come by, opened a window, pointed the barrel as far up in the air as possible and fired. Just once, that's all it took(keep in mind the gun was never pointed at or near the person). When the police came by, I told them a heard a loud noise, but I thought it was just the kid out there vandalizing my property. Yes this was an extreme thing to do, but when the police can't or won't help, nor the courts, you have to take matters into your own hands. I'm not suggesting you do this, then again I'm not suggesting you don't.

I do have a question for ya Traveler. How was that picture of your property taken??? Just curious. Wish I could help more.

My neighbor took my builder up in his C172 and got the picture that way.

The only problem I see with using a gamecam at that location is that if the kid is on your property after dark, the flash on the camera will alert him. You might end up losing a gamecam.

Take a couple of 12 gauge shells, open them up and dump the shot. Fill it with salt, and close it up and seal it with candle wax. I'm not telling you to shoot the little bastard with salt, but then again, I'm not suggesting you don't.

While I understand the sentiment, I think I'll just take some pictures.
