1856; AR-LA border; Unnamed male; 'Wild man' dragged man from horse and bit and scratched him before riding off on horse.
The Bords' sentence structure here makes it unclear as to whether this purported encounter was merely odd or utterly inconceivable: did the *guy* ride off on the horse after being bit and scratched, or did the bf??

Autumn 1869; Orestimba Creek area, CA; Hunter; Watched Bigfoot swinging lighted sticks from his fire.
If true, it certainly paints a portrait of bf as a curious animal. Assuming that they exist, I wonder what bf thinks when it comes upon fire.

1878 TN; n/a; 'Wild Man of the Woods' reportedly captured; 6 ft 5 in tall, large eyes, 'fish scales' on the body. Exhibited in Louisville, KY.
This one's news to me. Anyone familiar with the case?

July 1901; Pensbury Township, PA; Milton Brint, Taylor Brint, Tom Lukens; Three 'coon hunters one rainy night saw creature with man's head and neck, wild beast's body and legs, jump from tree. Dogs terrified. Same beast seen by Lewis Brooks and Jack Murphy in same woods not long after, walking on all fours. Seen to pass through fence; bullets did it no harm. (Not clear if this was a Bigfoot-type creature.)
No explanation as to why the Bords felt the need to add the caveat about it being unclear as to whether this was a "Bigfoot-type creature" or not. But let's see: the "creature"--bf or no--seems to exhibit supernatural powers, invulnerability to firearms, etc. Hmm...and where did this take place? Ah-ha. Pennsylvania. Anyone using this board live there? Where does your water come from?

Aug. 1939 or 1940; Headwaters of Silver Creek, Harrison Lake, BC; Burns Yeomans & another prospector; Saw 4 or 5 Bigfeet wrestling.
Unprecedented in anecdotal testimony. Must have been a blast to watch. I have to wonder, though: do bfs hit one another with metal folding-chairs when the ref's distracted the way we do?

c.1940; Nr Kaluka, AK; n/a; Female, black-haired Bigfoot captured and fed on fish; its hair fell out and it died.
Easily the most depressing bigfoot-related tale I've ever heard in my life. ("Its hair fell out and it died." Talk about anticlimactic.) Now, this was in the 1940s, supposedly, so this isn't some late-19th-century newspaper hoax/tall-tale. I guess it could have been a mid-20th-century newspaper hoax/tall-tale, but, given the lack of source, it's a toss-up. Again, anyone familiar with this case?

1943; DeWilde's Camp nr Ruby, AK; John McQuire; Killed by Bigfoot.
On his tombstone: "John McQuire, 1901-1943--Killled by Bigfoot." Should be a big deal, but this is all we get.

Summer 1966; Nr Yakima, WA; A youth; Chased by white Bigfoot which climbed out of tree at night; witness was found lying on ground shocked and clutching white hairs.
Just for the record, there'd been a rash of sightings in the area prior to this incident, all involving a grayish-white bigfoot. Nobody had it harder than this poor lad, though.

Jan. 1971; Dutchess County, NY; Young man; Saw Bigfoot on three occasions: while snowmobiling, in lovers' lane, and while Bigfoot-hunting, when 8-9-ft Bigfoot approached pickup carrying 4-ft stick.
Maybe it was our unnamed, snowmobiling, "Bigfoot-hunting" Romeo's girlfriend's father coming up on him. Probably deserved it...asshole. If it was a bf, though, it's another rare case of one toting a stick/club.

1973 Lancaster, PA; Woman; Witness was feeding hens when Bigfoot came and made off with a goose in each hand. She chased it and the Bigfoot threw a goose at her which knocked her down.
This took place during the famous 70s PA flap, so, of course, it has to be goofy and/or out-of-this-world in one fashion or another. I'd say a goose-chucking bf qualifies for the former. Too bad nothing more came of this encounter: the Pirates could have used a good middle-reliever, I'm sure.

Feb. 1975; Nr Gainsvilie, FL; n/a; Bigfoot hit by car.
And then what happened? Where did they get this information? There's no mention of whether the driver was even male or female! (Although, given that a car accident was involved, it was probably a woman driver. Am I right, folks? Am I? *rimshot*) Damn, this is frustrating.

21 Aug. 1978; Nr Minerva, OH; Cayton family & six friends; Two large cats seen with Bigfoot near house at night. Other sightings in the area.
Mentioned in another thread: bfs cavorting with oversized felines for purposes unknown.

Mid-May 1980; Mount St Helens, WA; Two men; While trying to get off mountain after volcanic eruption, saw Bigfoot walk out of forest on to road, look at them, and return to forest.
"So, what'd you do today?" "Not much. Mountain we were climbing erupted. Then, as we were trying to take cover from the decending ash and flowing lava, we bumped into bigfoot. You?" "Kind of lied around. Did a crossword puzzle."

Edit: title was supposed to read "...'The Bigfoot Casebook's' chronology," not "chronological."
Edit the second: oh, wait...I did type an acceptable title the first time around. It just gets cut off due to length and made me think I'd made a mistake.

Hi Tim:

Check out Tirademan's voluminous library of posts.

If you are into old newspaper accounts of strange critters, his posts are the ones. He's THE BFF historian. And the reports are always fun! And who knows......................

(Don't ask me to search for 'em cuz I have enough trubble navigating here myself.) smile.gif

PS: Edited to ask if you've ordered the Sierra Sounds CDs yet? No loaded question there, I assure you. But, IMHO, they are fun, and genuinely become quite the topic of discussion, like it or not, once you play them for your friends.

Is Ron Morehead paying attention to how much business I'm trying to drum up for him? Ha ha ha!

And seriously and importantly in my book, I honestly don't believe money is Ron Morehead's or Alan Berry's intent or raison d'etre here. That's why I feel very keen on pointing interested people to his site and his and Mr. Berry's recordings. If anyone is interested in BF, these CDs are a must, whatever opinion one might form from listening to them. Without hearing them, one simply is missing data which has truly been essential to some believers' formulation of their opinion as to BF existence, whether such opinion be right or wrong. Without hearing them is akin to having not watched the PGF.

Off the soapbox I jump.

FWIW.
