I just spotted that the logo used by Cryptomundo.com has lifted the the comic-strip drawing from the front cover of Steve Niles' comic 'Bigfoot'. See for yourself....

Paul - is your avatar a kitten with a sniper rifle? No offense, but do you expect me to believe that a kitten has enough cash to purchase a rifle of that caliber??? Not to mention that kittens don't have much upper body strength and if he fires that gun, the scope is going to hit him in the eye.... crazy.gif

I seem to remember Cryptomundo mentioning Steve Niles. I may be wrong on that.

Maybe they have an arrangement. It's hard to imagine Loren Coleman practising copy infringement. Book writers are usually sensitive about that kinda thing.

Unbelieveable

The parent company of Cryptomundo hired a web design company to redesign the website.

The design was not done internally, but was outsourced.

Loren had no hand in the graphics design.

We are in the process of contacting the graphic designer to verify the source of the image they created for us.

The logo will be replaced with a version minus the Bigfoot figure ASAP.

I have also contacted Steve Niles to inform him of the situation.

I appreciate the heads-up.

Yeah.. I agree completely that scope is gonna hit kitty in the eye when kitty fires.

Good show Craig.

The logo image has been replaced.

We will follow up with the third party designer as to the source of the image.

We were told that all images used were public domain.

That was not the case.

Very commendable Craig - I'm impressed.

It's a 6'5" tall kitty, and he doesn't need cash - people give 6'5" tall kittens whatever they want, or they get their eyes scratched out.

Good show Craig.

This kind of thing happens all the time in web design. I remember once reviewing a concept with a designer and asking him where he got the images used since they didn't have a watermark on them and weren't from the client. With a perectly straight face, he told me Google Images. He thought anything he found there was fair game. Incredible.

Props to Craig for responding so quickly and in exactly the correct way.

Yup. Props to Craig. thumbup.gif

And Paul, now that it's been mentioned, that kitty of yours does make me rather nervous. ph34r.gif

I had noticed that some time ago. Just assumed they had the okay to use it.

Images take prior to 1929 are fair game though...just not after 1929!
