The Madness

Just came across this article on rense.com
Argentina SightingSeems a couple of atheletes came across a hairy hominid in the forest. For the most part the description seems to parallel the North American sasquatch...except for the fangs and claws bit.
Are sightings in areas like this common? Or are these occurrences a new thing?

Hey, The,
Ivan Sanderson wrote in his book ABSM: Legends Come to LIfe
about saslike reports out of Argentina. I will check back in if they were referred to something other than mapinguari. or however you spell it.
I think thats also referred to as the Amazonian giant ground sloth which also looks apey. Who knows.

from Sanderson's Abominable Snowmen: Legend Come to Life, pg. 388...
"In 1958, the geologist Audio L. Pich found on the Argentinian side of the Andes at a heigt of over 16,000 feet enormous human-like tracks, with prints about 17 inches long. In 1957, the Brazilian newspaper Ultima Hora of Rio de Janeiro, stated that similiar footprints had been found in La Salta Province of Argentina, and went on to say that a newspaperman found the people of avillage named Tokor Grande in a turmoil, due to eerie calls at night eminating from the Curu-Curu Mountains. These are said to be the habitat of a dread creature called the Ukumar-zupai."

Tried to do a little research on the origins of this article. Sometimes the souce tells you a lot about the validity of the story. It's the first thing that I check if the claims are extraordinary (like a monster (hominid) sighting.
Rense picked it up from the Journal of Hispanic UFOLOGY which seems to be an internet based newsletter dedicated to the paranormal and UFO's. It was translated by Scott Corrales an editor? reporter?. Rense has a disclaimer saying that they just pass on this type of report with no endorsement of its validity.
The article Corrales was translating was supposedly published in El Tribuno de Salta which seems to be both a digital and paper based newspaper. I found their on line edition but due to my limited spanish couldn't find reference to the original story. It doesn't seem to be in the on line version. I may send the editor a question later today asking if they indeed published such an account. I'll do a little more looking and check back in later today. Anyone with better language skills is welcome to help out.

ditto. Tug you too. What I wouldlike to know is if there is any outfit or group of people down there digging around for information or privately experiencing it themselves. Jan did it seem recent? My Spanish is limited as well. I can read it fairly well but whoa on reiterating a response.

Streamrunner,
The translation gave the impression that it was published in the newspaper on Sept 4, 2003 and the sighting that generated the article occurred on Aug 31, 2003 - "last saturday". It references a third party account of a previous sighting that happened in 2001 (if memory serves correctly).

I was thinking that there was another sighting there recently. Whether it was the 2001 one that was recently (this summer) brought up and referred to I dont know. But if anyone could be contacted who could
a) speak English and b.) know if there are people investigating a certain spot for present activity (2001 wasnt that long ago) who knows what could be discovered. Neat.
