Part of an email from Ray Crowe, sent to another list....
It refers to some work being done my one Don Monroe.
" Another thing Don has been working diligently on was the
possibility of there being Bigfeet living in Zak Cave, as
reported earlier. To our great surprise and amusement...the
tracks and fingerprints have been identified as human by
Jimmy Chillicut (FBI fingerprint expert in Texas).
But...the prints, Jimmy says, in an 8/21 communication...
are similar to those of the Mongoloid race, which includes all
Orientals and Native Americans.
It has been suggested that this might be a group of natives
that do “not cotton to people.
Meaning, shades of Ishi, perhaps Don has stumbled on the
remnants of a “lost tribe. And that, is exciting. We are
scrambling now to find leads to which one it might be (but
have never lost sight of the fact that the tribe might be quite
hirsute).
At any rate...due to the extreme drought in the area...the
caves have been deserted for the time being. Don hopes the
strangers will return in the fall or winter, and is all ready
making plans to photograph them...maybe they won’t be as
elusive as the Bigfeet appear to be.
Any number of strange things have happened since he first
plaster casted the hand prints in the cave. First strange
thing...a photo was taken of a floor area scattered with
bones. He collected one, an elk leg bone, split for the
marrow, and submitted it to me for identification. After I
returned it (ID from Oregon Archeological Society), Don
noted that all of the other bones had been taken away, and
he can’t find where.
Many bait types were left for the creature(s); in hopes of
acquiring DNA samples. One of the most dramatic was candy
on sharp sticks left poked in the ground. They were all
eaten, and the sticks replaced in their original holes...half of
them upside down (the sticks are retained in the event we do
want DNA). Dead birds; a hawk and a pigeon, were found.
Nearby outside the corpse of a cow was found in a strange
rock enclosure that it could not have entered by itself.
Peanut butter was liberally placed on many
things...including the cave walls. All had been licked. A
hand mirror had been coated also...completely licked away.
It was submitted to Mr Chillicut, but he says there were no
fingerprints left. Bottles and b*lls and such were left and
handled (sent also to Mr Chillicut). Also foot and hand print
plaster casts were submitted, from which the designation of
human was made.
The footprints were found around a hole where the
creature had been apparently digging for water in an old
streambed...normally flooded, as were the caves, but dry
during the drought.
I should also mention that several hair samples submitted
to Dr Fahrenbach were identified as those of deer, raccoon,
and a predator of some kind...no human or Bigfoot hairs
were identified.
We look forward with a great deal of excitement to future
finds from the Zak Cave, and thank you very much Don for
sharing all the information with us, as I for one, share your
excitement also...and look forward to a write-up in the
forthcoming “Sasquatch 2004."
