I'm not sure if this should be catagorized as "fiction". I'm watching this right now on the computer even as I type. I have not seen it for 30 years, since I was a kid, sitting in a crowded, humid, movie theater.
It's actually quite entertaining! The cinematography is beautiful, even if the copy of the film this DVD was made from was in less than pristine condition.
The music is corny ("Hey, Travis Crabtree... it's the right life for me...") but it's typical of this type of film from this time period.
I especially like the documentary feel of the film. I had forgotten about that. It's a much about the lifestyle of those living in the Arkansas bottomlands as it is about the Foulk Monster.

I also got Boggy Creek II, but I have not watched it yet. I heard it's not as good, but it looks like the filmmakers spent more money to make it.

I've watched clips of Boggy Creek II through Google. I found the running commentary really annoying with those stupid little cartoon characters. I hope the actual video isn't the same. That was even more annoying than Beavis and Butthead with their little obnoxious laughs.. :icon_bang:

I think that was something added to the original from a cable tv show where they take old sci-fi and monster movies and spoof them with their smartass commentary.
I agree, it is quite juvenile and wearing. I teach teenagers for a living, and I get quite enough of that all day long.

JSYK,
I watched 'Boggy Creek II' last night with a friend. We agreed it was entertaining, but nothing like the first one.
The first movie is made like a documentary, this second one is a horror flick, complete with tawny young women exposing themselves to the terrors of the creature.
I think that was the part we liked best.

I didn't even know there was a Boggy Creek II. The first one was pretty fun. ( I admit I fast forward the drawn out music sometimes.) I really like the documentary style, and a lot of the people in the film are telling their own stories. They're so real and down to earth that they make the whole thing very believable. The dramatized parts are pretty creepy, but I wonder if the Faulk Monster was (or is) really violent like he (or she) is portrayed.

Who knows? Maybe he was just lonely, and got frustrated every time he tried to come closer to people. That would be my guess.
You might want to read the novel

Or maybe he didn't exist, and a story of a rampaging, terrifying monster sells better than a placid, reclusive one?

I saw it too when I was a kid. I tried watching it through google and those pesky cartoon characters ruined my viewing enjoyment. They are the equivelent of Ed the Sock on much music in Canada here and just as annoying. That's my humble opinion. I'd like to get my hands on the real video and sit down to watch it.

Legend Of Boggy Creek is one of my all time favs too.Watching it as a kid was cool.Watching it now is like a time machine back to a time when everyone in town knew each other, you didnt have to lock your doors,,and life was just relaxed.I would love to move to a little quiet town like Fouke Ark.,the creature would be an added bonus
