I'm told that this documentary on the Manitoba video is airing on CTV this weekend, and that the film-maker, Caelum Vatnsdal has registered on this forum as 'ponk-boy'.

A member suggested that we started a thread for discussion of this documentary - I'd like to personally welcome Caelum to BigfootForums.com, and hope he takes the time to answer any questions that might be brought up by the documentary and his work.

First question is this: How can those of us outside the broadcast area watch this documentary? If permitted, we would be happy to host a stream of the video here, but I suspect that there will be copyright issues.

I merged the two threads on this.

FYI, I looked on TiVo, unfortunately we don't get to see it here. I would be very interested to find where I could view it.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome.

I'm not sure how people outside the broadcasting range can see the movie, I'm afraid. I always assume that with satellite technology, anyone can watch anything broadcast from anywhere these days! But I guess that's not true. (I'm a twelve-channel basic cable guy myself, and I just assume everyone else lives in a million-channel multiverse.)

The documentary will eventually be broadcast both in the United States and Europe, however. I'm cutting together a longer 'International Version' right now. I have no dates to offer on that, but will certainly pass them on as I learn them.

The 3 posts directly above this one constituted a newer thread that is now merged with this existing thread on the same subject.

I sat through the 1 hour documentary last night, it filled in some of the blanks on the whole story for about 15 mins..........but the last 45 mins was a waste of time ,
I did laugh when it seemed ole MM was the only name associated with research on the topic.

It was okay but I'm still trying to figure out the search group. The doctor in charge,I forget his name, when they showed the Current Affair segment,he seemed to be acting like it was a big joke.

You are correct, sir. ANYTHING associated with the Current Affair program should be taken as a joke.

Now, my question for anyone who actually saw it: Was it a "hit piece" as I've heard other's who've seen it, say that it was? Did it appear to take a serious look at "bigfoot", or was the topic and title misleading as some who've seen it say it was? WHAT was the real focus? The PERSON who took the video, or the 'subject' reported to be IN the video?

Hi Guy
Some of my thoughts on it you may already know but here’s my take on it.
I have to admit that I never heard all of the audio due to where I watched it. (noisy room).

- Caelum was honest about his interest in sasquatch. He was not embarrassed to admit his mind is open to the possibility
- I think he represented well the circumstances surrounding how A Current Affair got involved.
- A lot of time was spent showing how that program hyped the video and the foolishness that followed. Not just by them but also from some members of the community.
- It was clear that from the beginning everyone involved including, Mr. Clarke and the Band, council had one thing in mind. Money.
- The video itself was revealed for what it is. Nothing. I thought he was prudent in having Bigfoot researchers be the ones who declare the video as worthless.

There was not much discussion on the validity of sasquatch. For sure the gist of the show was about what happens to the people in a small community when an event such as this places it in the limelight and subjects it to greed. I was left with the sense that most of the people involved are regretting the way it unfolded.

It was well worth the watch if only to teach you what not to do with a video of sasquatch. I see on CTV's website past W-five programs are available for free streaming. Maybe this one will be up there soon.

I re watched this earlier and while I still didn't find it too bad,the first 15 or 20 minutes were the best of the show. The whole audition thing was pretty bad too with all the over acting.I do hope Caelum does another documentary at some point.

It was a bit over-narrated for my liking. And toting MM as THE authority on the topic of BF research was not necessary. I agree that the the first bit was the best, but it all went down hil with the "abnomalist" (WTF?) and the chainsaw toting 80's babe that carved wood sculptures...um.... exactly what does that have to do with sasquatch??? was she going to carve a pancake or somethin'????
I found it more to be a "What happened to Bobby Clarke" as opposed to a "Sasquatch documentary" Camera work was good, illustrating the vastness of our Canadian wilderness...but the most outlandish statement was made by the "good" doctor...."There could be a hundred sasquatches hiding in the trees and we'd never know it!" :yeahright:  . Hopefully this willbe part of the learning curve for our buddy....lesson 1, if it involves MM or a Current Affair, DON'T refer to it!

I now have a copy of this if anyone wants to see it.

This is a letter from myself which I wrote to the producers of that program the night it aired...

Greetings!
I was hoping that the March 31st broadcast of the sasquatch film from Manitoba was going to dwell upon the misfortune of a guy who saw something which he was not prepared for..and who was ..definitely ..not prepared for the usury which followed by sleazy TV mags and questionable Bigfoot investigators. Just a story about a Canadian caught up in events beyond his control!

Instead I found a program worthy of a sleazy counterpart rathen then that of a serious journalism program! Even the moderator could not speak without tongue in cheek for the entire episode. It was obviously a ratings week.

Why doesn't a reputable organization such as yours have the guts to do a real study on this subject in Canada? You would be amazed that there are people out there who are not of the lunatic fringe, but honest, curious, sceptical individuals..seeking the truth!
Why don't you have the enough national espree to make a story on Canadians who have devoted much of their lives to the mystery..just going on the facts available to them?

Anecdotal evidence (reports)! Physical evidence (footprints)...(hair samples)!
Legitimate researchers..who are not necessarily believers..but who would be equally satisfied to prove or disprove the existence of the creature!
It has nothing to do with scandal mags..or opportunists who are nothing more then booking agents for tours..or freaks of any kind! Not that there aren't lunatics out there, but you find that in every endeavour!
We are professionals, lawyers, police, firemen, rangers.soldiers, teachers..and more...

Whenever you are ready to hear the truth about the past twenty years of sasquatch research..and the people involved! Get in touch! There are many voiced here to be heard!
The door is always open...

I caught about 30 mins of this documentary a couple of days ago - evidently a re-run. It was alright, but seemed more of a cautionary tale about dealing with Hollywood than an about Sasquatch. I give MM credit for calling the footage what it was - a blurry mess that could have been anything.

I got to see this via Torrent last night, and I completely agree with everything said here. And Moneymaker needs to shave that ridiculous-looking mustache off. He looked horrible with it. I would have preferred him with a full beard or goatee, but that mustache was pretty bad. The best and most complete Torrent site to go to is http://www.torrenttyphoon.com If you enter Bigfoot into the search engine there, and if you have Bit Torrent, you can find all kinds of Bigfoot and Sasquatch Torrents.

I remember watching it when it came out (ya I'm Canadian) and I remember it as GC said it. Sensationalist gipe. The one thing that stood out (as memory serves) was how the footage went missing.

Someone has always wanted to make money from the footage. Everyone except the guy that filmed it, it seems.

All in all, nothing new about a crappy piece of footage.

And ya, the guy doing the docu-drama should be smacked by the folks from Norway House.

The fellow that shot the footage seems, to me, to be sincere. It's just all the vultures out there that make it laugh worthy to the general public.

I am sadden to say I had my sister record the show for me, and well that I still have the DVD copy she gave me. I was so pumped to watch this and learn more about Sasquatch. Even the title "There's Something Out There" was denoting to the idea OF A REAL DOCUMENTARY on looking in to Sasquatch, but instead it was some steaming pile of crap that made a joke about people from a small town, and the idea of those who look into the Sasquatch idea.
