Search for Bigfoot planned today in Elliston

By The Helena IR - 03/03/07

They’re out there, and Stoner’s wants you to find them.

“Them” are the legendary Big Foot and the Wiley Wild Rainers, and Stoner’s Last Chance Saloon, in beautiful downtown Elliston, is offering rewards for their capture today.

The search for Bigfoot is an annual event for the small community west of Helena. “Hunters” must obtain permits, kits, legal releases, rules and instructions from the bar, at a cost of $10. The Elliston Fish and Game Commission has authorized only 200 permits for the special hunt, and a prize of $150 will be awarded for the capture of Bigfoot, an elusive half-man, half-animal.

Two prized jackets also will be awarded to whoever is able to capture the two Wiley Rainiers, which are life-size bottles of the popular beer, but sprout legs and arms — similar to what’s been seen leaping through the woods in television commercials.

Hunters must be of legal drinking age.

For more information, call Stoner’s Saloon at 492-6033.

This was discussed before. I believe the same bar put on the "hunt" before. To me, it sounds just like a Hash House Harrier's run. See http://www.gthhh.com/ for more on that. If you don't wish to read that, what the Hash House Harriers do is this: It's a running club that drinks..or, maybe a drinking club that runs. Nevertheless, the group is made up of the "hare" and the "hounds". The hare takes off before the rest and tries to elude capture by the hounds. The key is, the hounds have to make stops along the way and drink a beer before they can continue on. The chase usually ends up at some watering hole where the hare and the hounds party together.

In this case, I believe the "hare" is actually the "bigfoot" and the "hounds" are the "bigfoot hunters". It's just an updated version of the basic game. I could be wrong about this whole thing, but it really sounds like a hash run to me.
