Just wondering what is the creepiest thing people have found or encountered when hunting for Squatch. This sort of grows out of the CA Pot Growers thread and reading about all the bizzare stuff in the forests that are unsolved mysteries!

Here's a weird one--the golf b*lls thread:

I haven't found anything too creepy, although the things you mention such as meth freaks, hippies, and gold miners, and drug runners are certainly possibilities. So likely a possibility that I make it a point to carry my Sig Pro .40 caliber pistol with me at all times. In some of the places I have been, a black bear or moutain lion is the LEAST of your concerns.

Creepiest thing I've found when I've been out and thought I was walking through forest no man had ever walked through, was a womans panties. I expected to find a shallow grave close by.

Once seen a strange guy performing a ritual to "Krull" down at a river.

Carter Caves State Park down by the Tygart River there was a submerged deer head just below the waters surface right where I had decided to rinse off my hands. Just the head and neck remained. The remains of the deer were only 1500 feet from reported sightings of the whole family of BF...down river.

Thats the best part of going into remote places you never know what you will find . I found a stanless steel ball about the same size as a bowling ball . I have shown it to many people but no one knows what it was used for it is two halfs welded together the welds are perfet I found it in the 60 s Ive asked many welders about it and they have all said there is no way someone could have welded that good back then . When someone asks me what it is I tell them its an alien egg !

I read on the unexplainedmystery.com board about a colony of albinos that lives out in the boon docks and doesn't take very kindly to outsiders. I'm not trying to be mean but you gotta admit if your wandering in the woods looking for BF being confronted by a bunch pissed off albinos would be a little.

Also merry Christmas everyone!

I gotta bite on this one...

What state is this purported albino commune in?...

In New Jersey, according to a caller to the Coast-to-Coast show. (This one was hosted by Ian Punnit (sp?) about three months ago.)

creekfreak can you see the seam or has it been ground flush? If it was of a high gloss I would think it might be one of those lawn ornaments that sit on top of usually a metal or concrete base. Is there any evidence of other holes or mounting areas? Like maybe it was part of a sign for a pawn broker or something?

Nice one moregon. I would say based on probability alone you have found your culprit. I still like the whole alien egg thing... how bout a martian bowling ball?

I was hunting for deer (not BF) high in the Cascades at least 30 miles from the nearest town. I saw a silver, reflective, "something" up the ridge in the timber. A closer inspection revealed a popped mylar "happy birthday" balloon. I guess it floated away, burst at altitude, and fell to rest in that timber.

found a VERY thick jagged piece of glass, like 6"wide by 6" long,VERY thick, like the kind of glass they might use to make a seaworld aquarium, like it would have to be strong enough to hold sharks, and thousands of gallons of water,it was out in middle of nowhere, nothing else was around it

Well, it's anecdotal but..... the welds on my 60's vintage roadster bicycle are a hell of a lot neater and cleaner than on any other bicycle I've got. There were some real artists with a stick welder back then, and a lot of guys around who'd learned high quality techniques with what we'd think of as primitive equipment, doing welding work for the military in WWII.

TV tubes have very thick glass on the front. TVs get dumped everywhere, sometimes rangers/wardens/volunteers pick up the big bits, then there's the odd piece left behind, I've often found TV parts "in the middle of nowhere". Seen evidence that kids carried a TV cabinet 2 miles into the bush, just because they thought it would be cool to light a fire inside. If it was 12+ years ago though and the glass was flat then TV would be less likely, since it was around about 1995 that the flat front trinitron tubes became common. Could have been intended to hold pressure of course, but I'd think aircraft rather than aquarium.

Far northwestern Saskatchewan while shed hunting about 8 miles from anywhere I came across a dolls head. It was about the size of a young childs head and when I first seen it from about 75 yards thats exactly what I thought it was. It looked just like a kids head or skull laying under the spruce. FREEEEEEEKED the poop right out of me!!!!!!

Another time on a shed antler hunt in NW Ontario I to came across a set of panties. These were accompanied by a couple old porn magazines and a makeshift leanto. This was also way back in there where most don't go.

We once ran across a big, dead black crow hanging upside down by one of it's feet from a string, way up in a tall tree, someone had apparently took the time to climb way up in the tree and tie it up there. Weird. Gave us the creeps and we turned around and left.

Back in the late 90's, I once found what I thought was a meteorite in an almost dry riverbed way back in the wilderness. It was a weird rock, dark in color and about the size of a football. It stood out like a sore thumb against all the other washed-out and light-colored rocks. It was a weird, dark bluish-black purply color, had a melted look to it like it had seen a lot of heat, and it was extremely heavy for it's size. It would ring like metal when tapped. It was fairly heavy and my buddy and I took turns carrying it out of there. When we got back to the parking area BOTH of our hands were swelled up so bad that we could hardly close them. No joke, it was an extremely weird feeling. I put it on Ebay as a possible meteorite with the story of how and where it was found, and it brought almost 500 dollars. The buyer emailed back and said that it was mostly comprised of Magnatite and he couldn't be sure it was a meteorite until it was tested which would cost over a 1,000 dollars(if I remember correctly). We were just excited that that a rock brought 500 bucks. Thinking back, I should've kept the damned thing.

We once found a medium sized dog wandering around with an industrial-sized salad dressing jug stuck on it's head. It had apparently stuck it's head down in the plastic jug to try and lick the dressing and couldn't get it back out. Who knows how long it had been that way or how long it had been wondering around in the wilderness. We were able to pull the jug off the dogs head and it freaked out as soon as it saw us and took off running into the woods never to be seen again.

Saw a chicken way WAY back in the wilderness once. That seemed strange at the time.

Once while on an mountain summit looking for an old USFS lookout tower location, we spotted something reflecting in the sun about 100 feet down from the summit of an adjacent mountaintop. After a lot of hiking and searching, we finally found the source - a CAR HOOD - looked like a mid-70's Ford Maverick. What the hell was a car hood doing WAY up there in that location? Still weird.

While on another hunt for an old tower location, we found a 1940's school bus parked on top of a mountain. It had "Civil Air Patrol" written on it. It was in bad shape and had been there for many many years. Had a stovepipe sticking out of it and some trash and old clothes - you could tell it had been used as a camp down through the years. I'm sure the bus is still there - would make for some great pics to post here in the future.

More weirdness - While looking for caves in a wooded area about 20 miles from here, we spotted a sink hole with a cave opening near the bottom. Upon close examination and a quick look into the opening, we saw the bodies of at least three full size horses - they had been in there for a long while. Yuck. (I had mentioned this on the forum a long time ago).

One time, when I was a teenager, me and some of my teenage buddies snuck into a nature preserve one night to fish in the large man-made lake. About 3 am, three HUGE white things silently floated across the lake illuminated by the moonlight - they sortof looked like swans but these things were monsterous, like several feet tall. Freaked us out, and no, no drugs or alcoholic beverages were involved. Heard some strange vocalizations down in the valley that night too followed by dogs barking, and yes, I did think about bigfoot at the time - in fact we all discussed that as a possibility for the sounds. We were all freaked and creeped out.

Great thread. :new_thumbsupsmileyanim:

blink.gif Those sound interesting, never heard of anything like that before. So they were definitely birds of some description? What was particularly swanlike about them, the movement?, the neck? The way the wings kinda pointed up at the back?

Of course, these can be big buggers, particularly Alaskan bred ones ...

When I was a teenager I was squirrel hunting with my Dad way back in a creek bottom down in Louisiana, and we found a small wooden box sitting on top of a tree stump. When we opened the box, it was full of handwritten recipes. Not too far from it we found an old trunk. It was locked but Daddy broke the lock and it was full of papers that had an Arkansas address, baby clothes, pictures, etc. The address was of a town about 200 miles from us.

We took the stuff home and after some searching Daddy found that the people that owned the trunk lived on a farm outside this town and their farm had been hit by a tornado the year before. Everything was blown away in the storm. He and my uncle took the trunk and the recipe box back to the people. Both the box and the trunk had some water damage, but neither were broken and the things inside were in perfect shape.

Sortof swanlike because of the general shape and whiteness. I remember they were just silently gliding across the lake. We all saw them and it really freaked us out. It was one of those things where your mind just can't interpret what you're seeing because it really didn't make sense to be seeing something like that. Here's a quick drawing from paintshop showing the general shape of the things.....

The creepiest thing I found happened this past summer. I\'ve shared this with a couple here and there. My field partner and myself headed down into a new are of the swamp we haven\'t been before. We were looking for a short path to a series of railroad trussels along the track that runs throught the property. We found no short route any way you go(this is a pretty big area). We were on a trail that hasn\'t been in used in a very long time. A good piece in we came across a hog root and we checked it for tracks. Past the root around a small bend we found 3 tracks crossing the trail. The tracks we old and not really good enough to have cast. On both sides of the trail there were scuffs and a couple of partials prints, but most were lost in leaf litter. We cut sign for a bit and decided to move on. I\'m not saying these were squatch tracks but just they were interesting and they appeared to be shadowing the hog root. We made it to the trussel and checked for sign, found a spot to place a camera trap, took photo\'s of the area so we could determine better camera placements, and decided to move back. Now the creepy stuff. We passed the area of the crossing and passed the hog root. In the middle of the trail(exact middle) was two limbs, from different trees, layed into the shape of a T. The cross piece of the T was toward th area we just came. Both Steve and I are big ground watchers. I look for sign constantly and one of us would have seen this. The longer stick was lying on to the top of the cross piece. I lifted it up and the long stick and the grass(new grass was everywhere on this part of the trail)underneath sprung right back into place like it was just put out there. No wind. No recent storms. Couldn\'t find any decernable tracks. Now the really cool thing is Steve films constantly the whole time we are out. We reviewed the tape. Both of us, seperately and we got good shots of the trail in this area coming in. Nothing. This creeped me out pretty good, because if it was placed on the trail, someone did it while we were up trail and we never heard em.

I seem to have a knack for finding old abandoned stills.

Once while scouting along a small creek I came to a bend where a ten foot tall section of the bank had collapsed. Sticking right out of it was the front end of an old Packard. Another creek scouting trip revealed a 20' x 20' hut made of bamboo lashed together with Mardi Gras beads with a big sack of beads suspended from the center.

Hiking down into a bottom that can't be reached by road we found a tree with about 20 empty soda cans hung from the branches like ornaments. Another hike into the bottoms in another area I found three old Coke bottles laying side by side on top of the leaf litter (I assume someone else found them and forgot to take them with them).

Stumbled upon a few old homestead graveyards here and there.

The oddest thing was a center cap for a wheel. We'd put out a pile of apples in the middle of a sandy stretch of two track. When we came back two days later the apples were all gone, and where the pile had been there was the center cap without a track around it.

Strangest thing that happened to me was last summer. Last summer my son and I were call blasting at the same place that we have used over the last few years. We have had some interesting results before but this was over the top. After our second call blast into a very deep long valley we were greeted with about 6-7 loud gunshots that seemed to be directed towards us. Though we didn't hear bullets whistling, we quickly packed up and got the heck outa there. My son and I made a pact not to tell mom about it. :new_weirdsmiley:

Ok, now that's the creepiest of all. I'm curious, did you get anything suspicious with your camera trap? Also, the first thing that came to my mind was to reposition the 'T', so in case whatever was trying to avoid where you were laying the trap, they'd be wrong the second time.

I remember one time being out in the woods with Bill Brasky in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. Brasky goes up to the deer and says, 'I'm Bill Brasky! SAY IT!' Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, 'Billbrasky' ... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer.

Sorry couldn't resist!

I remember we were squatchin in Arizona, and found an old abandoned van in a ditch with about a thousand bullet holes in it. Apparently it had been left there by some illegal immigrants, and over time hunters would come by and use it as target practice.
