I'm a bit slow on this.
In the June, 2006 issue of Backpacker Mag, there is a feature on the 3 'classic' long hikes in the US - Pacific Crest, Continental Divide, and Appalachian Trails. The main feature of the stories is a 4 page (for each) 'map' which positions the trails and the geography - obviously not very detailed. On the maps are comments that highlight, and offer descriptions of various parts of the trails.
On the map for the Pacific Crest Trail, there is a section between Mt Adams and the Columbia Gorge labled the 'Dark Divide' with the following comment (p 68):
'Dark Divide: Name given to the area between the Columbia River and Goat Rocks Wilderness, and reputed stomping grounds of Sasquatch.'
