I have recently come into a little bit of money, and I'm thinking of getting some better nightvision equipment.

Any recommendations?
JayleeD
I really don't know which one to recommend. Take a look at Cabela's web sight. They've got alot to choose from. I found out today that if you call them they are very helpful with product info. smile.gif

SFS, I have a Night Owl... and I'm very happy with it...

Have you seen this thread regarding night optics?

Thanks for the recommendations. smile.gif

www.harborfreight.com has some pretty affordable night vision stuff. Even their goggles are only 349.00!
As soon as my income picks up again I'll definately be getting some!

SFS, another source for night vision optics (plus a whole lot of other cool stuff) is:

www.sportsmansguide.com

I've ordered some things from there and have been pleased. smile.gif

I would recomend you check out some of the digital still cameras (like Olympus) that see in the infrared. With a filter and lightsource that is filtered for true infrared you would be able to get some good pictures at night with such a system. Starlight scopes are not all they are cracked up to be for photography unless they are in the very high end ($15,000) and then you need the right camera for it.

Forgot to add... check out this month's edition of Outdoor Photography on the subject.

Cool stuff… thanks damndirtyape… I loved your movies, BTW… except at the end, when the statue of liberty was smashed… made me all misty… smile.gif

Say… does anyone have any experience with those “gametrackers”? Those hand-held heat sensing devices that give a bar graph reading on heat sources?
Titus
Here.... Game Tracker Thread

Whoa.. Giving RB a thread reference?
RB
Whoa! RB’s eyeballs are spinning!!! blink.gif

How did I miss that? huh.gif

Actually, I was concerned Rick Noll wouldn’t see my question unless I posted it in a thread he had already posted to… cool.gif

How’s that for damage control? smile.gif

Thanks Titus… I completely forgot about that thread… dry.gif

I am still wondering though... maybe I'll pose the question in that thread...

[edit] Titus, I hope you're not expecting a pay raise or anything... I'm not authorized to approve that... but I have some free drink tickets and $25.00 in free slot play I can send you, if you travel between Sunday and Thursday that is...
Titus
N-no raise? And me with all these little mouths to feed and clothe?

*sigh*

Free drinks?

Things are looking up....

The 1st generation NV stuff is all pretty much crap, if you can afford it get some 3rd generation optics they are gonna run you like 1500 to 2000 dollars but are well worth the money these are the same type the military is using now. Sean

I've decided to go with a IR rifle scope, much better for my kind of researching. smile.gif

To a Bigfoot Researcher, Night Vision is a third arm. There are two ways to achieve it. A Starlight Scope or a Video camera that has IR capability and low LUX. The best is with a Starlight scope. Look for one that is adaptable to any camera you wish to put on it. Look at battery life and any accessories such as IR pen lights. Don't mess around with anything under 3rd gen. Look for lockable off switch, common batteries, rechargeable or replaceable, quiet, ease of use, ability to focus well, change gain and contrast, metal or high impact body of unit, operating temperature, humidity within your requirements. Return policy.

This and cameras is where people need to spend their money. Get the very best you can afford and you will never be sorry or have to make excuses.
