I was fortunate to hear Terry Reams tell his story in person at the
IBS Bigfoot DazeQUOTE(me quoting Terry Reams)
12/06/75 - east bound from Portland to home in Yakima… Terry was in the right side front, sitting next to his mom, his dad was driving and Terry’s wife in the back seat when east of Cascade Locks, they noticed brake lights ahead of them and in the fast lane cars were starting to move to the right as if they were trying to avoid something in the road. As they came closer, Terry said that it appeared as if someone dressed all in black was running alongside the cement barrier (between the east- and west-bound lanes) in the same direction as they were going. The car in front of them decelerated suddenly… Terry’s dad was already slowing down by this., and the creature suddenly crossed in front of them, then continued running east, with the traffic. As the car pulled alongside the Bigfoot, Terry described it as “hairy… looking like someone wearing a furry, hooded jacket, as was popular at the time (I believe he is referring to the “Bear” coats of the early 70’s).
Anyway, the BF looked down into the car at Terry, as it was passed. Terry only remember the eyes, he doesn’t remember seeing the nose, mouth, or ears of the Bigfoot , “ but it looked very frightened.” The creature made a sudden 90-degree turn to the right… bouncing off the rear quarter panel of a truck/camper, “I’m sure that guy driving that camper had to have known something had hit his vehicle,” Terry said. He still thought it might a man until it looked down into the car at him!
After bouncing off the camper - “it didn’t seem to phase him a bit” - Terry said, the Bigfoot continued across the road, across an on-ramp to the freeway and disappeared up the hillside.
As they continued home, all the talk was about what had been seen and should they report it. When he got home, Terry called the State Patrol (Oregon or Washington… he didn’t say) and asked, “Who should I report an unusual occurrence to?”
“You mean like an UFO?” the officer asked.
“No, something else.”
“Like Bigfoot?’ the officer asked. “Report it the sheriff’s office in the county it was seen in.”
So, Terry called the Hood River County Sheriff. The dispatcher wasn’t surprised to hear from him, “We’ve already had a number of reports, with four of them coming from our own sheriffs!”
Terry said that at a WBS dinner (predecessor to the IBS), Peter Byrne told him that acouple of days later, several cars reported a Bigfoot in the same area, apparently heading for the river.
Peter also has hired an investigator to find the other witnesses to this incident. Terry said he really would like to talk to the driver of the camper.
