Oh Mah
I will start with an apology to those who may have posted about this previously, but I tried to find some information about this, and my search failed me. I am now looking at BFRO Report 369, entitled Possible vocalizations heard by backcountry hikers in Redwoods National Park...and I'm wondering if anyone might be willing to spill the beans as to what trail they're referring to in the park...or must I obtain the necessary permits and hike every *** Damned trail in Redwood National Park until I find the canyon mentioned in the report...

Good God...is the BFRO keeping a secret stash of Squatches someplace, so that they may roar at the appropriate moments and impress the "squatcho tourists"? Why would they, in this report, hide the name of the trail where the purported encounter occurred? Redwood National Park is long and thin...I would think that if people were interested in what was going on there after hours that someone would report on it.

Anyway, I've been thinkin' about doing a little backpacking this season...my time is extremely limited, but if you've got some suggestions as to how to put things together, then, let's talk!

I apologize for the extra added passion, there...I just get a little frustrated with all the secrecy of locations. I'm sure that the trails inside Redwood NP are not really damned by God.

Maybe this will help you make some decisions.

I have been wondering about this myself....there was another sighting by a couple in Redwood Park too and they had a map and everything of it...now I can't find it...but here's this one too...

Daylight sighting by motorist on Johnson's Creek Road (off Bald Hills Road) near Redwood National Park
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Show Printer-friendly Version)
YEAR: 2000

SEASON: Summer

MONTH: June

DATE: 25

STATE: California

COUNTY: Humboldt County

LOCATION DETAILS: Johnson's Road off Bald Hills Rd off of Hwy. 101 near Redwood National Park in Humboldt County, CA. I was going towards Bald Hills Road and was about 2 miles from it. It was just before I came to the big prairie. The creature jumped off an embankment and there was a lot of dust in the area.

NEAREST TOWN: Orick, CA near Redwood National Park.

NEAREST ROAD: Johnson's Road off Bald Hills Rd off of Hwy. 101.

OBSERVED: I didn't get out of my car. I didn't have my camera with me. I noticed a movement on the right of my car ahead of me. It was a large man-sized creature on two legs striding very fast (long strides), then it ran very fast and jumped off an embankment. It was very heavy, a lot of dust was in the air when I passed the spot where he jumped off the embankment (where he jumped off was about twenty feet from the road). The creature looked brown and gold in the setting sun.

ALSO NOTICED: I had my bright lights on even though it was not dark. The road is very narrow, so the lights help warn oncoming cars that another car is on the road. A lot of dust at the spot where the creature jumped off the embankment. The movement of the creature looked as if it was very large, very fast and strong.

OTHER WITNESSES: I was by myself with two dogs. I was driving out from the ranch where I have my garden.

OTHER STORIES: No.

TIME AND CONDITIONS: On June 25th at 6:10 PM, I was driving back from the ranch on Johnson's Creek Road off of Bald Hills Road in Northern California. I was about 2 miles from Bald Hills Road on Johnson's Road. I noticed in the forest a movement on my right. Then I noticed a large man-sized being, striding very fast away from the road. Then it jumped off an embankment. The early evening air was clear with sunlight showing through the forest. The being looked brown and gold in the forest and sunlight. When I went by, there was a bunch of dust in the air, where the being jumped off the embankment. I drove a little ways and came out onto the prairie. The creature was very fast and took long strides.

ENVIRONMENT: Geography: Forested area. On Johnson's Road just before you come to the big prairie.

I am the one that investigated this case...

one week prior to this event I heard a long call (longer than the ohio call) from this area (across the river at a place called bear creek)... one week after this persons encounter, two other people saw this thing through a nightscope.

I dont have much time to talk about it as I am at work, but if anybody wants to know the location of this and many other sightings in this area just pm/email me

For as long as I can remember it has been said that the BFRO has 2 sets of sightings data bases. One for the public that they take all names and locations out of. They will tell you sort of where things happened but not right where it happened.
Now I have also heard that they also keep the very best sightings to themselves and never make them public. It has also been said that they also have some very good pictures and recordings that no one but a select few have seen or heard. I have no way of knowing if any of that is true or not that is just what others have said over the years.
Now I also must say that I understand and agree with them not putting peoples names and the locations of sightings out to the public for a time. The names I think should be kept private always unless the person says to make it public. The locations I feel should be kept from the public until their researchers have looked into it then it should be made public unless it is on private land. If on private land it should be kept from the public unless the owner says it is ok to make public.
Even something as simple as what trail in a park could lead to problems if they are not done researching it yet.

I will say that I agree with the approach that there should be some discretion involved, especially in the case of a recent sighting. That especially applies in cases where the sighting was on private property, or where a witness' identity could be revealed. I think it also applies to cases where a serious investigator is conducting a physical examination of and area, and there's a danger of trampling footprints or contaminating evidence.

I think that in the case of BFRO report 369 it ought to be perfectly safe to reveal location details. This incident occurred six years ago - who knows if there is a Sasquatch within 100 miles of this place now? My position is that the BFRO is being overly cautious in keeping the name of the trail where the incident occurred a secret. After all, this is a public trail in a National Park! I'd just like to know...maybe it'll inspire me to forward a little money into the National Park system, which could surely use it!
