For any of you who may remember me... you may also remember that I work for the Railroad. Well... this morning, a friend of mine who works in our Dispatch Center, called to tell me a story. This same friend also knows that I believe in the existence of Bigfoot... and is the reason for his call.
His job is to dispatch Signal Maintainers to the different locations on the system, whenever there is a "Signal Related Problem." (If the Crossing Gates are down... and there are no trains around... I'm the guy you yell at! :new_whistle: )
Last night... we had an interesting occurrence.
Last night, a Maintainer out on the Mohave Subdivision, was sent out to find an electrical problem. He, (like the rest of us Maintainers,) has a truck that can drive on the rails. This type of truck is called a "Hi-Railer". So... he puts his truck on the rails and starts driving the rails, looking for the problem.
Apparently... as he was driving along, in his headlights he saw "The Biggest Black Man he has ever seen" sitting on the rails. As he gets close... he states that instead of being a man... it is a "Huge Gorilla."
He stops about 50 feet from it... and the "gorilla" just "casually" looks over his shoulder at him. This event lasts a few minutes, before the gorilla "Stands Up-right... Takes two steps, drops down on all fours, and walks off into the darkness, just like a gorilla would." Of course... my friend asks him if he thinks it was Bigfoot... in which his reply was, "I Know what a Gorilla looks like... besides.... why would Bigfoot be out in the Mohave?"
At this time... NOBODY has and explanation as to "WHY" a large gorilla would be out in the Mohave. But... because this particular individual is well known and well respected... we are officially calling it a "Gorilla". (No photos... of course.)
So... there ya have it! Just something for the imagination! :new_thumbsupsmileyanim:

Yeh! Your avatar has an "interesting" origin if I remember that right?
Intriguing report.....

Also, ask him if the legs were much shorter then the arms and when it walked upright if it had a significant side to side "waddle" as a gorilla would have. Also, when it went down on all fours if the shoulders were quite a bit higher then the hips. If so, you might want to call around to any zoos to see if there has been any escapes.

Woodshadow,
Yep! :new_lmaosmiley:
Sunflower,
I've never been to the Mohave Sub... but I know that there are many subdivisions in which you will have multiple Railroads. (Spokane has both BNSF & UP)
I'm on the Cascade Subdivision, and we run both UP and BNSF.
califb,
Well... he is very convinced that it is a gorilla... we just really got a good kick out of it. But... What puzzles me is that whenever I think of Mohave... I think of a "Desert". Maybe a gorilla jumped from one of the Circus Trains?... I just don't know.

Col, you weren't here when Donnie was giving us pictures and asking us to figure out what they were. The picture above is one of them. He gave us the portion that comprises his avatar, which just looks bizarre, and asked us to guess what it was. As you can see it is the nose and a portion of the muzzle of the animal in the picture above. I think his putting the picture in the thread here was a reminder of who he is.

I'm not sure what to make of a gorilla in the Mojave.
CalifB there have been reports of sasquatch with legs that were shorter which gave them a gorilla like stance when they dropped their knuckles to the ground in a quadrupedal fashion. If you look at Pete Travers' gallery you'll see some witness sketches of some sasquatches whose arms look longer than their legs.
Just a thought

Thanks ARsqatch. Did anyone figure out what this particular animal is?

Donnie,
I'm guessing it's vermin. Reminds me of some type of rat, what is it?

colstonewall1 & Sunflower,I found this picture in a "Time Life" book that was dated back form the 60's or 70's. Its either a Gerble, or a Hamster... (I think its a "Gerble"... I'm not remembering right now...) Anyway... its simply the play of light from the camera flash on the critters silky black nose. (Poor little guy!... Now all I can do is stare at his nose! :new_lmaosmiley: )
I spoke with my dispatcher this morning and asked about the "gorilla". My friend said that the Maintainer, who saw the gorilla, spoke to the Sheriff's office and was told that there was a "Game Preserve" near-by, and that they would notify the owners of the preserve about what he saw.
I find it kinda funny that when someone claims to see a large Gorilla out in the middle of a desert... everybody believes him. But... when a witness sees a large "gorilla" looking "THING" roaming an area with a history of Bigfoot activity... everybody thinks this same individual has misidentified a bear.
To me... the "Bear" misidentification thing has always been a week argument. I think its just the fact that people just cant except the possibility of Bigfoot.

Donnie,
OK that's cleared up. Not as cute as my pet chipmunk who is not with us any longer. Poor Alvin passed away many years ago but he loved to spread out in my hand on all fours and be stroked and petted. I swear I could hear him snore sometimes.

omg! i had a pet chipmunk named alvin too! back when i was about, oh god, maybe 10? he was an ideal pet, was very tame and had free range of the house, which led to his demise. he was hiding nuts all over the house, preparing for winter, when he fell into the open toilet and (sniff) drowned.
i was heartbroken and still have some guilt feelings about it

GC,Thanks for the warm greeting bud!
Actually... I have had to whittle my life down to the pursuit of only a few of my passions. I have been given a lot more responsibility with my job... and I'm loving it! Kind of a crash course if you will... I've been kinda forced to learn some of the more technical aspects of both Signaling, as well as "Communications." It takes much of my time... but the Railroad is treating me very well.
Other than that... I continue to coach a youth archery league. The kids are doing well and no one has shot anyone else... "Yet!"

Anymore... I mostly lurk... but I'm still here!
As for the gorilla... I'm under the impression that he is slightly larger than the one in your photo...
Today we found out that the gorilla had indeed escaped from the preserve. The gorilla had been raised from an infant (at this same preserve,) and has apparently learned how to open and close doors and gates. (I guess the gorilla acts more like the owners child than it does a gorilla.) Supposedly... we may have some photos in the near future. :popcorn2:
Here is a photo for ya!... This past Winter, the snow was knee-high to a "Sasquatch!" :eek3dance: (At any given time... I had 5 feet of snow here at my house.)
Take care!

Okay. I was going to guess Capyberra (sp?), the South American rodent.
