I have a new Pentax ist DL camera and wondered if anyone else has a TL digital that has tried night time photography. Might save me alot of time to know right from the start what works and what doesn't.

I know some digital cameras can do well with less light than others but I am wondering about IR light from a source. I could also use the night vision mono I have because there is an adaptor for the scope to fit on a TL camera. The question is will it work on a digital camera or can it just be used for film?

I don't know what the digital camera would do with the image from the night vision scope.

Anyone got any ideas or can point me in the right direction for this info?

Has anyone tried night-time photography using IR or just using the camera in night-shot mode?

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Don't know anything about the Pentax, but my group uses the good old Sony camcorder with the nightshot capability. Our digital cameras still rely on the flash going off, giving us more detail if we take a picture of bigfoot at night anyway. I have heard you can peel the filter off the inside lense of most digital cameras and make them IR compatible, but seems to be risky with a 2 or 3 hundred dollar camera. Hopes that helps some.

I would think that once the flash goes off..game over. BF is moving out of the area in a flash. I don't want to spook the creature any more than I have too. Even the IR light might do that. I know this is still in debate. I do know that once the bright spot lights come on everthing goes down hill from there when we are out trying to record at night.
