Bigfoot gumshoe hangs shingle in Yukon

Last Updated Tue, 18 Apr 2006 13:36:06 EDT - CBC News

A man from Whitehorse with an interest in the unexplained has started a sasquatch detective agency.

Red Grossinger, who founded the Sasquatch Yukon organization, promises he will seriously look into any sasquatch reports in the territory.
Some believe this film image, shot in California in 1967, is of a female sasquatch. (Sasquatch Research Project /Associated Press)

For thousands of years, sightings of large, two-legged ape-like creatures have been reported in the Yukon and other parts of Western Canada, the U.S. Pacific Northwest and as far away as China.

But if they exist, the animals have proved extremely elusive. No undisputed evidence has ever been found of a sasquatch, an aboriginal word meaning "hairy men." They're known as "Bigfoot" in the United States and "yeti" or "abominable snowman" in the Himalayas.

Grossinger says he was inspired to start the group after a report in 2005 of a "bushman" in the area around Teslin, a village about 160 kilometres southeast of Whitehorse.

He said the incident made it clear to him that sasquatch investigators in southern Canada knew nothing about the many sightings in the Yukon.

"They were lacking information about this part of the world so that's why we decided to team up with the people in Alberta mostly to do more research at this end," he said.

"Now summer is coming and more people will be out hiking and such, so with a little bit of advertisement we should be able to find more and check it out, do some actual research and investigation."

Hair tufts were found in an area where people reported seeing a sasquatch near Teslin, but DNA tests showed the hair came from a bison – a finding that led many to dismiss the sighting as false.

I heard this guy on Coast to Coast. He's more of a Bigfoot Enthusiast™ (as opposed to a Bigfoot Antagonist™!). He didn't sound capable of investigating the origins of his own turds but I guess he's passed the Bigfoot License® exam and by law ya just gotta give it to him. He did sound sincere - if not perplexed at this 'radio audience' thang. Expected him to say "....are we really on the radio right now George?"

Good morning, I would like to reply to the comments made by "HARRY", I am the guy from the Yukon who was on " Coast to Coast" radio last night.

I find your opinion very defamotary, maybe you should read the rules of this forum about defamotary comments. You should have, in order to join this forum, so respect the rules.

How do you judge the ability of a person to conduct investigations ? Have you ever conducted investigations, except perhaps from your armchair ? Have you been in the field ?

I would like to invite you to the Yukon, it's just east of Alaska by the way. Then we will see whose turds YOU can investigate.

This is serious business, my group are doing serious business, and we do not need degenerates like you to muddy the water.

Take my advise and DO NOT use defamotary terms against me again.

Have a nice day, Yukon Red

I live next door, in Alaska. I'd be very interested in learning about any more sasquatch activity you folks learn of in the Yukon.

I followed the news reports of the sightings in the Teslin area. I found them very interesting. I've been through there a few times. There are some very, very lonely and quiet places in that area of the continent.

:icon_really_happy_guy: :icon_really_happy_guy: I see you didn't like my 'review' of your radio appearance. Just callin' it as I hear it. I'm not sure you're aware of just how many heroes come around regularly who are gonna save the world and solve this whole Bigfoot mystery once and for all, damnit. Like I said, your sincereity came through clearly but I wasn't so sure of your capabilities and/or 'savvy'. Maybe because of its lack of population, but the Yukon isn't yet so much a hotbed of documented Bigfoot activity and your saying you're the Yukon go-to-guy, while possibly comforting to Bigfoot Sighters™ in the Yukon, isn't all that earth shattering.

Since you're an apparent 'field guy', reading and rebutting to snide remarks by people like me on a board like this won't isn't your gig anyway is it?! :new_whistle: Ahhh to hell with me, you just get back out in the field and show us poopyheads what it's all about. And truly, good luck to you - I'm positive you'll need it.

Harry the man ?

You are positively the winner of the "Armchair Reasearcher Award" of the year, that is 1790 of course. (That's the year. not your IQ)

Which you may pick up at the glorious nitwithouse, who some would call it the "Whitehouse" .

Now, please make sure your 'Field Reasearcher" chair is tilted the proper way, close enough to the keyboard, you certainly do not want to reach too far, OK, are you with me so far, this far ? I will write
r e a l l y s l o w s o t h a t you wil be able to u n d e r s t a n d , are we still together ?

Good boy.

Is your chair OK ? Just want to make sure, check it again, are you ready ? Here it comes............

.....MIND YOUR OWN BLOODY BUSINESS !

We , in the Yukon, do our own things the way we decide to do it, SIMPLE AS THAT. Now get the hell out of our way.

I am, Yukon Red, have a nice one.

Didn't I mention something about 'heroes'? Oh yes, I see it now. :icon_really_happy_guy: Please spare me the righteousness speech. The fact you're using the term 'Yukon' not as a place of geography but as some sort of credibility builder is laughable. I really wasn't being facetious when I said you just needed to get back out in the field and forget about 'persons of my ilk' on boards such as this. Yes, I wasn't impressed with you in the beginning, although there was ample time and any number of ways for you to prove me wrong. But nope, it wasn't to be. Your rebuttals have removed any doubt I had. I tried to tell you.

Now, simple advice. Not everyone is gonna love you for what you do, regardless of your own passion for whatever it is. And probably even more so when you're talking about 'discovering' some mythical man-beast monster. Now, if you're gonna be "all vocal and s**t" on the radio and chat boards etc., you'll need to develop an even thicker skin than what would otherwise be necessary. Rebutting to my critique was probably an emotional call, but less than well conceived in my opinion. Callin' everyone names and insulting their mothers because they're not in your hero camp won't help much in any constructive way in my opinion. Hell, you've already alluded to how being out in the field is the one and true way to get real results and that us lazy asses sitting in our 'armchairs' won't be the ones to get it done. I can't disagree with that nor have I, ever. I will beg of you this time to disregard anything and everything I'm saying and just go on your hero way. If you're lucky (and I wished you plenty last post), you'll be able to come back with a body and shove it up my ass. Fair enough?
