Just to clarify, it is not a TBRC blog article, it is a Craig Woolheater blog article. As I stated on Cryptomundo:

Any views or opinions expressed in this blog are solely those of myself, Craig Woolheater, and do not necessarily represent those of the Texas Bigfoot Research Center.

Calling a sighting report as a "suspected prowler" to 911 would be a dead-end if you mention anything about "bigfoot." The local police department might send around an officer and a report might be filed away someplace. No sasquatch field investigators will have been alerted and therefore no immediate field investigation work is performed.

However in the rare chance that the law enforcement officer attempts to investigate the scene at the time of the incident, there is the possibility that the officer will find further evidence of the sasquatch's presence-- maybe damaged vegetation, hair, footprints, or dare I even hope to say, another sighting of the animal. In such a case, we might end up with documented evidence that could stand up under scrutiny by skeptics.

So go ahead and call 911-- just don't mention the part about the "wild hairy bipedal animal with big feet." So long as the law enforcement officer responding to the 911 call thinks that a human perpretator is the suspected prowler, more immediate investigative work will be performed at the scene of the sighting.

I'd be interested in reading followup comments from any members of the law enforcement community seeing this post.

One has to wonder just how many 911 calls a BF sighting has produced. Surely those calls have been recorded and are on file with local law enforcement? What a treasure trove!

With all the different types of programs that have been on television - I have always wondered why there hasn't been a program produced about BF sightings. There have been so many unreported sightings and an awfully lot of people who would be interested in knowing about them. The programs there have been, I've always enjoyed hearing the witnesses' testimony the most. It could be in the format of "Americas' Funniest Home Videos" except of course the subject would be BF and not funny. Perhaps a program like that would incourage those with sightings to bring their stories to light. Yes, untrue reports would also come to light - but untrue reports come to light anyway. It would sure be one of my favorite programs and definitely worthwhile.

Sorry about that.

I agree with you. Usually when I watch a bf related program, I'm only interested in the sightings and interviews with witnesses. I wish they would have a full hour of interviews with witnesses instead of twenty minutes of sightings and the rest field investigation by whatever group.

Amen!

I know of at least two incidents where law enforcement was called to possible sasquatch encounters in East Texas. One involved a young boy (about 8 years old) who was hysterical late one night when the deputies arrived. The mother had called the law, and told the deputies that the boy had screamed bloody murder upon seeing a "huge tall black man in a fur coat" walk across his back yard. The deputy told me that the boy was in a state of shock. The house was surrounded on three sides with national forest, and the incident took place in July....in Texas.

Another incident, about 30 miles away from the first one I mentioned, involved a man who reported seeing, ironically, "a black man in a fur coat" run across the road in front of him, into the national forest. The man called the law because "something just didn't seem right."

I investigated a sighting report that law enforcement personnel were involved in.

It happened just north of town here. A lady was driving down the highway coming into town to work. She had a "large black hairy animal" run across the highway in front of her car. She said it ran on 2 legs like a man, but it's arms hung almost to what she thought were it's knees, and it ran faster than any man could possibly have run.

She drove on to work, but her employer called the sheriff's dept. because she was so upset that she had an anxiety attack. She was taken to the hospital and LE investigated at the location where it ran across the road. There was a pasture on the side of the road where it ran to, and they (and I) talked to the owners of that property and looked for evidence. From what I was told by LE, they found what they believe was a possible footprint next to the barn, but that was it. I never found what they were calling a footprint. Too many horse hoofprints to determine anything for sure.

Since that time, there have been 3 other reported sightings within 1/4 mile of this one. LE investigated 2 of them, but have been very hush hush on what, if anything they found.
