As a no-kill advocate, I have often wondered what other methods could be used to obtain physical samples, and darting always comes to mind. But what drug, dose, and delivery method to use? Here's a new deal I read about today. It's a new Taser weapon made by Taser International, and called the X-REP. It is fired from any 12 gauge shotgun, and the current range is 30 yards. They are developing one that will be good for a 100 yards. Now I am not saying I would use one of these crazy things, but it could have a place in Bigfooting, and beats the hell out of killing one. I can only imagine what might happen if a Bf was hit with one of these things, and I wouldn't hang around to find out. Has anyone else heard about these things?

Ok, but you still have the same problem as with tranqs, in that you dont know the proper amount to administer.
Too much, and you end up killing him anyway. Too little, and well I'm sure you get the picture.
A good idea, we're just not ready for it yet.

Why mess around. Ionatron has a cool, although pricy, gadget that 'shoots' an electrical charge down a laser induced plasma trail (eg, a lightning bolt). One can vary the voltage, but it is supposed to be able to either knock out a car engine, and stun, or with enough gain, fry you. A deal at, I'm guessing, $1M. Not very portable.

Wow, weapons from our favorite video games becoming reality. I always loved the plasma/lightning bolt gun thing from Quake.

How about knocking the big guy out with a cow bell? :new_lmaosmiley:
Nah, forget it. I just couldn't resist after seeing Sachmo's great avatar. :new_thumbsupsmileyanim:

That sounds like very interesting invention that would be useful to pro and anti kill people.

Here's a blurb on the LIPC - Laser Induced Plasma Channel - device. Yes, you, too, can be a zapper.

Let's just say that a certain federal government would take great interest in you if it found out you had any of these devices... :new_whistle:

It has always been my opinion that it would be too risky for the person in such an encounter.
Because we don't know enough about how the creature would react if it was hit with a stun gun, pepper spray, or whatever, I would rather just let it walk or run away -- or if you feel that its going to attack you shoot it.
Most of these weapons like stunguns and so forth are designed with humans in mind.
And half of the time, if you have a guy who's big enough, tough enough, or is mentally unsound or hopped up on something, stun guns/tasers/pepper spray won't stop him.
So I have no reason to believe anything like that would do anything other than piss the creature off. It would either run away or attack you. And I think that those would be the two possible outcomes of an encounter if you opted not to use such things, so I think it would be better not to try them at all.
I'm surprised people that do have good money don't invest in high cal weapons like a 50 calibur rifle or something that it would be almost a guarantee that the creature would be dead when hit, or if a leg or arm was hit you would hope that it would be wounded enough where it would be easier to track and found once it did die. I'm just throwin' stuff out there. I'm not real knowledgable of firearms compared to most here, just wondering what stuff would work.
Of course these aren't the main obstacles. Finding one out in the open is the first goal, I realize that.

http://www.tfd.chalmers.se/~valeri/Ajax/elec_flame.mpegIf that weapon is as powerful as the voltage in that video than I guess I was not realizing how powerful it is.
But then aren't we drifting into a grey area as to whether it is lethal or non-lethal?
It seems it would be more non-lethal to shoot one in the face with a shotgun than to use that kind of voltage on one which would kill anything.
I kind of look at firearm as a non-lethal stunner if these creatures are as stout and tough as reported.
I know that the stories probably aren't true, but we've already heard of a couple of yarns floated on the forum about them being shot in various situations and always taking off into the woods.

Looks like something simple like a cannon net set over bait would work. It catches deer and turkeys pretty easy. Of course you would have to have someone there to moniter the site and to run in and dart it. One could watch the site from a treestand and night vision. Sounds silly but what else has worked so far? :new_whistle:

check this out. it should end any fantasy about these types of temporary weapons. the question is ,like the bull in the video, what will happen after any effects wear off. the bull jumps up and wants some retribution. this was using a more powerful device designed for animals. you can keep the trigger down thus starting a new shock cycle continuously. this is till the battery wears out. you can touch someone being tased so you may be able to secure the animal but how and how to do so very securely and quickly.

Actually, you just duct tape the button down to keep the current flowing, drop the taser, and run like crazy for the truck... :eek3dance:

I think I read this somewhere, but I couldn’t agree more. I don't think I would ever shoot a Bigfoot. Even if I did manage to kill one I wouldn’t want to be around trying to drag the body onto my four-wheeler when 3 of its 500lb buddies came over and ripped my limbs off.
