The general consensus was that is was a deer, with small tree limbs in front. I took that a step further and showed that when removign the tree limbs it becomes pretty clear. I then superimposed a mule deer over the image, and it removes any doubt.

Original

edited out the tree, makes it a little clearer to see what it is (sloppy but serves the purpose of bringing focus away form the two little branches)

The becomes really clear, when I superimpose the mule deer head. (note the white face markigns of the mule deer)

This has already been discussed in another forum and a large concensus was that it is a deer with part of the branch creating the illusion of fangs.

Mule Deer. At least that's what most everyone thinks.

It looks like a deer but as far as I know there are no mule deer in the Adirondacks, only whitetails. I thought that mule deer only inhabited the western half of the U.S. and Canada.

It could be a whitetail. Their white facial markings are not as distinct as a mule deer. The light can play tricks, so it is certainly possible. I am 100% positive is a deer. It looks very m uch like a mule deer. I would bet money that this was taken somewhere out west, and not NewYork. I have no way to prove it other than saying it looks more liek a mule deer thana whitetail, but it could be either.

That's cool computer work. Definitly looks like a deer, but where's the eye shine from the flash?

Has anyone else noticed that this deer is an optical illusion?
It can be seen either head-on or sideways.

Dare I say shape-shifting. icon_redface.gif
