Malaysia Creates Team to Track 'Bigfoot'

Thu Jan 26, 10:56 AM ET

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - A southern Malaysian state will appoint a team of scientists and experts to hunt for a "Bigfoot" beast after the reported sighting of three giant human-like creatures, officials said Thursday.

Johor Chief Minister Abdul Ghani Othman said the state will form an official Bigfoot-tracking team in a serious bid to find evidence of such a beast following the reported sightings late last year in the Endau Rompin National Park forest.

"The mystery of Bigfoot's existence has attracted a lot of interest," he was quoted as saying by the Bernama national news agency. "We hope the expedition will be able to prove its existence."

Ghani's aide confirmed the report Thursday, saying state administrators decided to set up the team after a council meeting late Wednesday.

"Bigfoot" is a popular name given in the United States to giant hairy creatures walking on two legs. Sightings of such beasts have been reported in many parts of the world but their existence has never been proven.

Malaysian media have been gripped by Bigfoot fever since November 2005, when fish farm workers reported seeing three giant human-like hairy beasts at the edge of the Endau Rompin reserve. They also claimed to have seen a gigantic footprint which they photographed.

The photo was later printed by local newspapers.

Park officials have combed the site where the men claimed they saw the creatures, but found no physical evidence of their existence. However, they recorded more reports of sightings from Aborigine villagers who live on the park's fringes.

Tourism authorities are planning to capitalize on the sightings to attract visitors to Johor and the park. Wildlife officials said they may set up camera traps in the jungle to capture images of the creature.
[EDIT] to add the article.

One was by Ivan Marx. The other? Marx too? Since when did the family of the photographer admit it was a man in an ape suit? Reporters! At least they could get their families of hoaxers straight. Evidently all it takes to prove the PGF was a fake is to say it was.

Has anyone started writing nasty letters to ABC? I'd boycott them but I can't get the channel anyway.

Last night, we on the west coast had the opportunity to view a very bad segment, about a Bigfoot news story, on our local ABC channel seven news that began at 1630 hours. The channel seven news person stated that the Patterson film that was shown, was proven to be faked, but didn’t say anything degrading about the two bad still pictures that were defiantly hoaxed by Tom Biscardi, and or his minions. Those two photos are defiantly a person in a suit, even by the most novice person viewing them. I did e-mail ABC7 news and told them my side of that story, for what ever that’s worth!

Hey LAL....the reporter on NECN (New England Cable News) said the same thing. It burns me up that they can screw up news like that and then laugh off the subject of Bigfoot. It's complete idiocy.
Someday someone will bring one in...I hope it's soon!!

It would be nice if one of these fine news organizations could issue a retraction or correction, I'm sure they'll get letters. -But I doubt we'll ever actually see it, they seem to have more important stories to cover... like scandals, celebrities, and war.
It would also be nice if anyone could put together a decent story about the Malaysian investigation, preferably one that didn't have to use clips from 'Harry and the Hendersons' to launch their coverage.

They also managed to hit two of my favorite pet peeves! Just taking someone's word that the PG film was hoaxed, when no one would be convinced the film were real if they just had someone's word, (seriously, could they be any more backwards or vague?) and throwing in the phrase "Once and for all" such a pointless cliché.

Bigfooters, Trekkies, whatever,...the media feeds the mainstream need for a group to pick on and make fun of. Kinda' like the popular crowd needed nerdy-types to pick on to make themselves feel even more superior.

I have a dream; it goes like this,.........

"This just in,...We’re taking you live to the Pacific Northwest where renown Bigfoot researcher Sam Farris has not only produced a live Bigfoot creature, but claims that he and the creature are friends and communicate using American sign language!.......Sam, this creature standing directly behind you is simply spectacular!......Yes, yes he is. In fact, if you'll focus your camera's on his right-hand you'll see he's using sign language right now to tell all those people in TV-land that despite doubting the human Bigfoot community, you all are still number one in his book!"

I fired off a nastygram to ABC as well. Doubt it will do anything, but I used the ultimate media insults... get your facts straight, do some research, read a bit, etc etc... Everything short of saying "Liar, liar, pants on fire"
