Looking around the forum today, it seems the size of some of these signatures is beginning to get out of hand.
One in particular took up almost the entire viewable area of my web browser!
There are some BFF users viewing at 800x600 - I know of more than one (including myself) that uses a pocketPC at 640x480, and there are still a number of WebTV users, who frankly, don't want to see dozens of inane pictures in signatures.
Please reduce the signatures considerably - I don't want to start removing any, but we will if we have to.
FONT size on signatures should be 'small' wherever possible - use colors to distinguise them - one or two lines of text is plenty.
Please do not use your signature as a means to link to every damn website you are associated with - one link in your signature is more than enough!
If you have a picture in your signature, please ensure that it is no more than 60 pixels high or it will be removed.
Thank you - your co-operation is appreciated.

It's not the text sigs, Rob. It's the sigs with graphics in them. I guess they're fine on some gamer forum where it seems like the bigger graphic you have in your sig the better, but it's a sad use of good bandwidth on BFF, IMO.

I agree Fish. These large picture signatures take away from what a person's posted IMO.
Also, I've found that if a person has 4 or 5 different quotes in the sig, that I might read them once, but usually don't read the sig at all. On the other hand, I don't think most folks put their signatures there for anyone but themselves. Which is fine by me.

Looks like a bipto kinda' problem. All the forum settings look okay as far as I can tell. Maybe a server glitch? I dunno.
Same thing happens when I try to load a photo too.

Speaking of, "umm",
I hadn't seen this thread.
I'm guilty. Sorry to all. As much as this will hurt, I couldn't look myself in the mirror if I left my falling Wyley playing, for all to see, everytime I post. I bet it is annoying.....
Rest assured as I am BigToe.....That a reign will be put too this adsurdity... [is that even a word?]
Also, I've noticed that if you look at my sig too long, it kinda makes you dizzy......Can't be good......Especially if you are walking down a flight of stairs with a laptop.. :blacknblue:
Too anyone who has fallen because of my sig [or bad spelling]:
Please accept my apologies and also, this goes to anyone else who may've become dizzy...
Consider it gone....

I, for one, have turned off ALL signatures. They were cluttery.
So there.
Bah humbug.
I am very superior.
(If only they were buttery instead of cluttery... Mmmm... butter....)

I apologize to everyone here, especially to you Big Toe. I wasn't thinking when I made my previous post. It was simply an uncalled for, back-handed swipe at another member for what I saw as his quasi-trollish behavior. I am not a moderator on this board and I apologize for taking it upon myself to act as one. I will consider the possible consequences of my actions much more carefully in the future.

Oh, No. It's cool walkingcarpet. It wasn't you, I was just playing off your "um".......That falling wyley sig was making me dizzy anyways...
No sorries necissary.... I'm the one who should apologize...
It was Paul's post that I hadn't seen and wasn't aware of the big-signature rule. Not wanting to cause anymore problems than I already do [

], I figured my sig should go bye bye..
Plus it was making me dizzy...

Hey - it is nearly a full year since I posted about signatures.
I have tried being nice, I have tried being draconian - nothing works, so this is just a gentle nudge to remind you all to think about your signatures, and try not to make them so big that it takes up half the damn screen when viewed at 800x600.
Also, if you are going to use your signature to link to another BF related site, it would be polite to ensure that there is a similar link back to this one - that way everyone is happy, and the world keeps turning......

Someone asked me about this a few weeks back. As all can see that has been corrected. I put it up as soon as it was brought to my attention. For some reason I just had not thought about doing it. I guess I was thinking EVERYONE knew about the BFF.
I think this is one of the best and I enjoy reading all the posts.

If my sig is out of hand let me know, I can easily remove it. Though I'm pretty sure I'm in the guidelines..havn't really even thought about it...lol

Well, we tried introducing a strict 'no bigger than this' policy, and it was a disaster, so all we ask is that you take a look at your own signatures and decide whether it is excessive or not.
We don't want BFF to look like a 'gamers' forum with huge billboards under each post.
Don't forget of course that as a user, you have the option not to display everyone else's signatures - if you really don't like them, make the choice.

That's a good point, Paul, and it would help the pages load faster for those on dial-up.
You might want to let others know how to do this.

No.
It used to be allowed, but too many people were abusing it.
So, simple text is all that is allowed now I'm afraid - blame those who couldn't follow a few simple rules.

You know, the only people that say size doesn't matter are people with small signatures.
