The Madness
Hey all,

Since I haven't had the pleasure of looking up close at purported sasquatch tracks I can't say for certain as to what I saw. So...the next best thing I thought was to throw a few pictures I took up here for all to look at. A little background first...

Area is just south of Huntsville Ontario, Canada (about two hours north of Toronto). This past saturday my fiancee and I decided to meet my parents up at the cottage to check out some land that they recently purchased. It's being logged currently and is a nice sized parcel that is nestled on some higher elevation rocks, overlooking the highway/lake. Anyway, for the past month or so the neighbours have been complaining about a 'woman screaming' up on the hilltop that they have heard on a few occasions. This was also verified by an adjacent neighbour who also heard the screaming.

I dunno if this has anything to do with this, but my parents were awoken last week (they are on vacation up there right now) by something 'snoring' outside their bedroom window. Anyone know what animal would make a deep snoring sound? My dad says that it was much louder than a human, and he has never heard something like that before (he used to hunt quite a bit and it puzzled him). What they found strange was that when they moved the curtain away to take a look whatever it was went silent and they never heard it again that night (they went to bed shortly after). In the morning all three neighbours said they heard the same thing close to their windows as well. Maybe its a tired prowler blink.gif

Anywho, this land has lots of wildlife- I mean LOTS. We saw plenty moose, deer, and what appeared to be bear tracks. Mostly deer though. My fiancee and brother came across a print that they joked could be bigfoot. It looked like it had what appeared to be toes but it was too faint to really tell. There were foot prints from the loggers much closer to the road, but nothing this far in the bush (about 1 mile). I tried to use my sunglasses as a relative measurement- roughly 11 inches or so. Not big at all.

Here they are, along with a few pics of the environment. I'm thinking of putting some sort of game cam if I can find the time/money.

If it is a print, it's very old. Moss doesn't just stop growing because something stepped on it.

Were there any other tracks, or just this one?
The Madness
yeah there were a few more, but not really too detailed. This was the best one. None had tread marks either, but they look kinda narrow don't they? I thought they are suppose to be somewhat uniform throughout the length.

Always, always take pics of all the possible tracks. "Good" is a very subjective term--one print may reveal something another does not, like toe orientation.

Did the other prints you saw match the apparent age of this one? Or the size? The shape?

I wouldn't fret about the size so much. Like humans, there are as many footprints as there are individuals. "Uniformity", too, is subjective. There seems to be a slight arch suggested, yet the bulge near the bottom of the that maybe-arch is troubling. It appears that, if it is a foot, it slid laterally somewhat as it was planted. Does this area experience heavy rain sometimes followed by high heat?

Is that your cigarette butt in the lower right?

Actually, I live in neighboring Minnesota so I am certain it is my husband's snoring everyone is hearing. Yes! He does snore loud - very loud. There is no place in the house to escape from the noise and ear plugs do not help.

Hi StoneyRocks! Algonquin is truly amazing...some of the best bass fishing (northern part) in Ontario, IMHO. Are you sure your father wasn't sleep walking around my area? biggrin.gif

Excellent point WC. 'Good' is definately a relative term. I did take a few other pictures but with my parents camera, and can't remember if I snapped some of the others. Will take a look when they get back (probably tomorrow) and post them. All were essentially the same size, however some looked newer than others. It did rain fairly heavy earlier that week but this month it has been extremely hot/dry for the most part.

And the cigarette butt isn't mine. I didn't even notice it! Geez, pretty observant huh? Well if it is a cig then chances are it was probably human. Either that or Sas has taken up a bad habit smile.gif

Very interesting tracks, regrettably too old to make out a ton of details. Although in the second picture it appears that the toe just to the right of the big toe (scientific term right there!) is longer than the big toe itself. Not entirely sure what that means, I kow bear tracks can be shaped like that, but this looks like a poor canidate for bear overlap, especially if there was a trail of them that were similar.

Interesting find nonetheless.

Madness--- my father is a natural wildlife repellant--open a window and he keeps anything miles away--- i need to drink a bunch of whiskey after fishing at night just to get a good night's sleep.... new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Nice pictures Madness.

Only animal I've heard snore was a Great Dane who slept under my bedroom window in the summertime. He snored so loud he'd wake everyone on that end of the house. My dad would get up in the middle of the night throw open the window and yell at him to move. He'd move and snore some place else for the rest of the night.

I've been told I snore like a roaring train.

There's no proof. I don't hear a thing.

Mrs. Huntster wears earplugs at night. She loves them.

I wear my earplugs during the day. I love them!
