Full Version: Designing The Perfect Call Blaster
Bigfoot Forums > Bigfoot/Sasquatch Discussion > In the field
David Thomas King
I'm attempting to design a digital call blaster for use in the field. It needs to be small enough to carry in two backpacks if possible. With the evolution of sound equipment today, there's got to be a way to build something that will send out believable sounding calls and get actual callbacks.

It would have to be:

1) Digital
2) Portable
3) Rugged
4) Weatherproof
5) Loud and clear
6) Battery Powered
7) Brilliantly Designed
8) Quickly Assembled and Disassembled

If you were designing the perfect call blaster, what would it look like and what types of equipment would you employ to meet the stats above?

DTK,

I can get one that will fit in ONE Bag, no problem. Very loud and clear and able to record as well.

A verified sasquatch call. Something that doesn't exist to date.

Exactly. There is not enough reliable data to even make a suggestion. Do what everyone else does -- guess.

DTK, check out the Phantom Pro Series Caller on this link. I have actually witnessed coyotes respond from over a mile out, I think if you can get the sounds you want put on a card you would have what you want without reinventing the wheel. wink.gif

Coyotes in question were on a sheep carcass and came to a jackrabbit call. smile.gif

No disrespect to DTK because this sounds like a good effort to test a theory.
Good Luck with your endeavors DTK! thumbup.gif
I just wonder how many people will hear the sounds DTK is making and then report them as Sasquatch calls because they may fit the current "flavour of the month" for Sasquatch sounds??

I haven't gotten to any kind of designing stage, but I've been imagining some sort of high output speaker in a weatherproof cabinet, mounted on an ALICE pack frame, w/ some kind of control/battery box on the belt.

You might look like some kind of rural ghostbuster, but I think it might be pretty effective. smile.gif

Ok, some newbie questions here.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did try the search function and it wasn't really addressed in the manner I was thinking about.

I am new to all of this, and the equipment behind call blasting seems straightforward enough, it is the subject or the call that has me puzzled.

What exactly is being used for calls? Standard predator calls, or something else? I was under the impression early on that folks were using recordings of what was believed to be bf vocalizations to illicit responses. If that is the case too, what versions of the vocalizations are working the best? I scour the web searching for vocalizations, but would not have the slightest idea which to use that might illicit a response. I believe that the calls are based on some sort of social structure, and I figured that experienced researchers through trial and error have most likely figured out which vocalizations that would not piss off BF and even perhaps lure him to the area. Being as there are such a diverse amount of vocalizations, where should I start? Again, I am only trying to illicit responses or curiosity.

thanks in advance, and apologies if this has been beat to death in other threads.

What about you live captured a fox or rabbit and then stake them out in a fiedl down range with a string tied around his "dangling bits" and when you need a noise just give the rope a good yank and I guarantee that you will get the loudest and most realistic distress call you have ever heard .

...or just go "low tech".
Use an old school megaphone. You know, the big cone.
Bellow out whatever call you think will work, and whatever you're capable of. Belt it out loud and clear.
I think there is an advantage to this because there will be no "artificial" component to the sounds you make.

You need a sound that will attract the beast, something that gets into the soul....like Rosie O'Donnel in heat. That will either bring him in, or scare him to Mexico
