This one is less than a month old. Drove right by the area on my way home from work last night ,but since I don't take a computer with me to work didn't know about it till I got home. Class A Anyone from Oregon interested in taking a look around other than me? Map shows area around Jefferson Lake.

Already walked a few miles around the area, but could not follow tracks any more. The Warm Springs Reservation is what stopped me from going on.

Beautiful area, lots of vegetation and animals... be aware, extremely high population of bears in the area.

Bill, the map is just of the area around the lake mentioned in the report. I don't have the exact coordinates. Going to make a trip up anyway. Storm moving through tonight, hoping for rain. wink.gif That way anything I see should be fresh. smile.gif

Apologize for not getting back to you sooner with the information needed v-hunter. Here is a map of the sighting area.

Thanks BiPedal. Sent the kids camping with their grandparents, so now I got some time to kill. Rain again tonight. Got two maps showing where I intend to try, any thoughts?

2nd Map, different scale. 7.5 minute USGS.

Did not make it to the lakes; Carl, Cabot and Shirley. Will notice in the area, a large forest fire had hit there within the last five years. Did not do any research into the name or the amount of acreage.

There seems to be a huge water supply surrounding the area and lots of strawberry and other edibles out.

As stated in report followed tracks as far to the east as I could without trespassing onto the Warm Springs Reservation. Not enough day or time to walk areas to the west.

That's where I would go to check, the lakes.

Hope this helps out.

I remember the fire, closed Hwy 20 down for awhile and evacuated people in Camp Sherman and Black Butte Ranch. Was 2 yrs ago I think. I've been traveling that route for the last two months to work in the Salem area. Thanks for all the info. smile.gif

Can't get time off work to help out. sad.gif

Good luck and be careful... Fire season on the east side of the Cascades is in full swing.

Made it to Cabot at daybreak smile.gif , walked shorelines of all three before I had to head back home. Saw bear tracks and a possible BF track at Carl Lake, very indisinct and full of water. Probably just a bear. Also saw a nice herd of Elk. Plan to make more trips to the area as time allows.

Sorry Bill I left my camera in the truck this morning in my rush to get up the trail. I really don't think it was anything more than a bear track. Probably over lapped. It was a single depression about 14 to 15 inches long, maybe 6 wide full of water along the lakeshore. With the amount of bear sign in the area I'd say it was that. Just not enough to indicate otherwise. I may spent a night or two up around the lakes during elk season if the herd stays close. smile.gif

Just want to add that this sighting report has been updated. Hairs found came from a bear. sad.gif

Had a couple of forest fires on Warm Springs Res. News tonight was they are now contained. Gonna try this sighting area again this weekend to see if anything has moved through due to the fires. Don't know if any of the fires were close or not , still trying to figure that out. smile.gif
