According to the doctors in the emergency room, I came extremely close to having a stroke around Midnight last night...
My blood pressure (which has always been pretty bad in my family) was around 220 over 165...
"How You didn't have a stroke is beyond me", were the doctors actual words...
I'm on some pretty stiff blood pressure meds now, but please, keep me in Your prayers and so forth, as this has pretty much scared the living hell out of me (I'm only 31), and now I -have- to leave the state for a week for work...
Thanks alot, and I appreciate it muchly...

Big prayers. You might consider taking some time off work to see if you can get that hypertensive crisis under better control. Your live is worth way more than the job.

I'm glad it scared the hell out of you. I mean that in a good way. We're about the same age by the way. It takes something like that to get our attention sometimes..start thinking we're superman, but we're not teenagers anymore. Time to keep the mind, body, and spirit strong and healthy. Do the right thing...whatever your heart tells you. I think you've got the right idea...asking for prayers. There's one on the way up to the Big Man right now. Take care. Remember that money is just green stuff. Conscentrate on the important matters...God and family...they're the ones that will always be there for you. God Bless...you're in my prayers...

Scary indeed. Check out the South Beach Diet, if you haven't already. It was designed to lower blood pressure and serum cholesterol - weight loss was an unexpected plus. It's a healthy way of eating even for people who don't need to lose any weight (skip phase 1 if you're one of those).
Good luck!

I'm glad somebody brought that up... I was gonna mention low carb but that always seems to cause such a fury among people who don't understand it.

Seriously, low-carbing, even with the added fat, works in such a way that most people's cholesterol levels PLUMMET after the first few weeks and a LOT of people can get right off the BP meds. My own mother, two weeks after starting Atkins, nearly passed out because her blood pressure went down to normal so fast and she was still taking her meds..
ANYWAY, something to consider if you don't want to rely on meds to try and control it.

Randy,
I'm not much into prayers but I will give you some advice. The only thoughts or prayers that will pull you out of this are your own. Thinking positive is your best way out. I'm not sure what your line of work is but I always say:
"Success should not be measured by the size of the house you live in. It should be measured by the number of smiles you put on peoples faces!"
There are enough big houses on the hill. We need more people who just plane enjoy life!
"Keep life simple and watch yourself smile more

"

Damn, Randy!!!
Good thoughts headin' your way, bud. I sure hope they're able to get you on some meds that will help to lower your blood pressure and get you in check. Thirty-one is WAY to young to be dealing with that type of problem.
Glad to see you had sense enough to get yourself checked out too. Good move on your part.

Hey Randy, I,m new here . Wanted to say good luck and please keep checking at least once a day. Even Walmart and drug stores have free moniters. Might not be the best but they do put you in the neighberhood. Last fall had the same thing happen to me and it took about about a month to get it to stay close to normal. The first thing I did was cut out all caffine and sodium. Its hard but if your life depends on it it will come easy. Life style change is a biggie. Stress is another biggie. Goodluck and your in my thoughts

I'd just like to say THANK YOU to everyone who gave me well wishes...
I did end up going through with the work related stuff I had to do, and in some ways I think it helped me out alot (lots of time to think on things and so forth)...
I'm on some pretty hard core BP meds at present, and have pretty much given up caffiene and salt (to a lesser degree) cold turkey...
Once more, thanks to everyone for their kind wishes...I sincerely and whole heartedly appreciate them all...
