QW: Cheron should be spelled Charon.

I think "BIG BULL****" is more appropriate.
Anyone holding out for more MONEY from any willing media source is obviously full of it. And why hasn't even a single photo frame been shown publicly?

swPA: Similar objections have been raised & dealt with on the main thread on Nelly. Mainly, one of the posters drew the following scenario: Clarke shows the video to scores of neighbors. Eventually, one of them says, "You've got something valuable there. Don't give it away. Wait for the best offer. And be sure the buyer agrees not to cast nasty aspersions on you or it." Clarke says that makes sense and goes along with it.
I would. Wouldn't you? Or, if you wouldn't, wouldn't most of the people you know? Most people aren't terribly mercenary, but nowadays they are hip enough not to let themselves be played for a patsy by some sharp/smooth glad-hander from the media into "sharing" their little patch of paydirt with the world.
Also, I pointed out that the fact that he is licensing this footage for one-time use is a (mild) indicator of sincerity. If he knew he had something that would start to crumble once sophisticated film analysts and locomotion specialists, etc. put it under the microscope, he'd have tried to sell the film outright. He could thereby have probably received twice the amount, and then "taken the money and run."
I've also given (on that thread) a good reason for not releasing a still image yet: It would detract from the ratings Fox will receive for being able to state that its show will contain the first glimpse of the creature. Some percentage of the populace would have its curiosity satisfied by merely seeing a still picture--and they would not tune in to swell Fox's ratings during sweep week. (Which is when they are I think going to broadcast it.) And Clarke didn't need to publicly release an image to pique the interest of bidders--he only had to email it to them, confidentially. We don't know that that hadn't been done.
Check out the main thread--there's more there relating to the credibility or fishiness of Clarke's behavior.
