Hello fellow BFFer’s,
I was supposed to hike over 4 miles past Hogtown into the woods of Whitehall, NY today with Hollywood Action Hero. But as luck would have it, I stepped on a piece of glass last night and it went deep into the ball of my heel. It created only a small opening, but I bled like a stuck pig! I was a bit bummed that I couldn’t get into the field today but decided to make the best of it. I’ve wanted for some time to make a better logo to represent The North Eastern Sasquatch Researchers Association (NESRA), but have not had the time to sit down and do it right. I started the picture below this afternoon and finished a half-hour ago. I’m not sure it will work as our logo, but I thought it came out nice anyway. I thought I’d share it with you all. I call it, The Northeastern Wood Ape. Let me know what you think.
Hopefully my heel won’t be as swollen come Wednesday and I’ll be able to get out to Whitehall and set up my Treestand for next weekend’s NESRA expedition. In the meantime, I’ll be busy setting up the NESRA database and website and creating more artwork like this… Enjoy.

Thanks guys,
Any suggestions as to how to improve it? How about some of you artists out there?

A flatter nose. Queen Kong has that human-like nose in only a couple of frames--most PGF experts seem to think that a close analysis indicates a flatter nose.

Just offhand, The half turn angle of the midsection makes it look slightly wasp waisted, which kind of makes the head seem a little large in proportion, but that's just to me.
I'd hardly call it problem, though. Pretty solid job, I'd say. The westward-facing stance was a nice touch.

I'd put hair on his chest.

Here's one with a color adjustment and more hair on the chest... I agree with the flat nose thing but don't want to lose the Patty look. I'll probably beef up the waistline to, to get rid of that wasp look.

If nobody else sees a problem, don't go to any extra trouble over it. For all I know, it's probably more accurate that way.

There is something "odd" about the fact that everything is crisply defined in the photo except the face. Maybe it is just me... but the face about the eye and nose looks "cloudy". If you are seeking to make an artistic statement "the face of bigfoot is indistinct because the public have yet to truely see its face"... then the picture is fine.
My own curiousity. What imaging software did you use?

I created it in Photoshop. The face is fuzzy because I didn't want to over-detail the Patterson look. I just accented the lips, the eye shine and color. That's about it. If I detail it, it will lose the "patty" feel.

Shading is a bit off. The light source seems to come from the rear of the figure. The face area would not be so well lit. A bit more shade and darken up the rest of the face except the one cheekbone thats exposed to the light coming over its shoulder.
Great picture though. I like it =)

DTK (nice work BTW) if it's not giving away a trade secret

- how did you create the hair effect - do you use a graphics tablet?
I hate to quibble good work - but you asked for it

- I'd query the main light source being the diffuse glow top left, but the figure is lit from straight right.
John
Good job though

Edit - on looking again, could you add more lighting to the other side of the figure creating a "rim-light" effect - seeing as how the lighting looks diffused??

I wrestled with the shading a bit Gojira. The more I added, the less it looked like the original "Patty" image. To compinsate I tried to create a "dusk" type of lighting coming from the right, hence the redish tint in the first picture. But the magenta was too overpowering, creating a purple hue.
As for the fur, woodshadow, it's a mixture of graphic splices from a costume, clone effects as well as the smudge and blur tool. I don't have a tablet, but I'd love to get one sometime.
By the "other-side" I assume you mean from the left. Am I correct?

The light, and shadow are out of alignment, i.e. The light is coming from behind, and the face is a lighter contrast on the front of the animal. Use light, and shadow correctly, and darken the whole piece. My two cents.

DTK - sorry for the delay - time zones and all that...
This was the area I was suggesting for additional back lighting..
Thanks for the info on fur - I don't use a graphics tablet - thought you might have been doing.
