Any of you BeeFootologist see this show on A&E tonight?, the one where the guys go and make a fake loch ness monster and go around fooling tourorist and the like. I only caught about the last half-n-hour of the show but they took the fake nessie around hoaxing around loch ness catching peoples reactions on film and I'm not entirely sure why they went and wasted all of this time and money on the hoax. I am not sure if they told the people who they fooled it was a hoax either. Is this Monster Hoax show like a series or just a one time thing?, I doubt they are doing a sasquatch version of the show but you never know. unsure.gif

It shows me how difficult it is to hoax something in this magnitude. You need money, equipment, and a team of experts.

Nowadays, to duplicate the PG film, I believe you would have to use cg.

Looks like there is a repeat on Sunday 4/10 at 10:30 am EST.

Picture of their version of "Nessie" here:

You know I used to really enjoy watching A&E, but it seems it has gone the way of National Geographic.....non-selective programing. Anybody ever watched "Dog: Bounty Hunter"?

whats that?
hi,

I caught it too, thought they did a pretty darn good job fabribcating nessie. In regards to doing a hoax of that complexity with BF though, not too many people are out on Loch Ness hunting it with guns. In the woods of the US, the ending might be a different story. Also, if I was on the boat that the tourists were on I would have demanded the captain move in for a closer look, then suddenly, the hoax is foiled. I think something like this would happen if someone tried to pull a similiar hoax in the woods with serious (no-kill) BF researchers.

I just caught the last half of the show. I did find it very interesting how the people who saw the hoax reacted to it. I would have expected more excited reactions, especially among the Nessie Tour boat passengers, than was exhibited. If anything they seemed to display a conservative, almost sceptical reaction even while some professed belief. It would have been very interesting to track how many reported the incident to families and friends, the press, and/or authorities and how many just kept it to themselves or even denied they had seen something. It would also have been interesting to hear more of the witnesses tell about what they experienced than was shown on the program...how would they describe and explain the event as time went by. Is anyone aware of any follow-up on the hoax?

It is probably safe to assume that BF witnesses (of an actual event) would have reactions similar to the Nessie hoax witnesses. The usual public perception of a BF witness is of someone who is about a half bob off plumb out seeking attention when in fact the typical witness may more likely be a conventially rational person who would rather either stay mum about their experience or try to rationalize it away so as to avoid publicity and/or especially ridicule. This raises the question of how many BF have been seen and the sighting dealt with in this manner?

When deliberate hoaxers and the mentally ill are removed from the picture your average BF witness who goes public may prove to just be less concerned about the opinion of their peers and society in general than they are about telling the truth as they know it.

I saw the show too (they played it twice last night). That was my impression also. I thought they'd be all excited, running around, taking pictures. Yet, most just looked at it like, "hmm..look, something is out there. What is it?" It was a pretty complicated hoax...several divers and a creature they could actually move the neck.

I think Beth (Mrs. Dog) is OK. But, I just keep waiting for one of those "things" to pop out of her tank top, slap her up side her head and knock her out, right in the middle of a bust. (pun intended) wink.gif

I hate to say it but i've become frusterated with the discovery channel also, I find no interest in watching grease monkeys building crap every night. I also don't get a kick out of remodeling or any of the other garbage they continually show on the channel either. I liked the animal shows very much but they are showing this kind of stuff less and less often any more. The only shows I watch on discovery any more are Wild Discovery and Mythbusters. I believe the only channel that has held somewhat steady is the history channel but, to my horror even they are starting to do a show about fixing up cars. Hang in there history channel, don't sell out like others before you have lol. blink.gif

I know what you mean. I like the old Discovery nature shows that just pan the forest and talk about animals. One of the narrators was even Avery Brooks, Commander Sisqo on Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
JayleeD
I agree about the Discovery Channel. I have noticed that Animal Planet is showing more documentary type show. This morning I watch one on the endangered Vancouver Island Marmots. They talked about how the timber cutting has affected these animals with the clear cuts not providing enough warmth for them to hibernate and survive the winter.

Now if they would just get rid of that idiot who hosts "Planet's Funniest Animals", I'd probably just keep the TV set on that channel. dry.gif

A-freakin'-men!

Why don't they have a seperate channel for these things, like a Popular Mechanics channel or something? Why aren't the redecorating/interior design shows on the Home and Garden network? As for the History Channel... for the longest time I thought the little "H" at the bottom corner of the screen stood for the meanie head Channel. I find WW2 just as interesting as the next guy, but come on! And with shows like From Tactical to Practical they're going the way of Discovery. TLC needs to be re-named because they are always showing While you Were Out or What not to Wear. It just breaks my heart that with all the channels I have, there usually isn't anything on. I was perusing my guide once and saw a show titled Double Agents. Sounded interesting, so I tuned in. It was people buying homes. Who the hell finds watching real estate deals entertaining? I would have loved to see them pitching this idea to the execs.

I've gotta agree with you, Jack.

I spent a lot of time in my garage working on vehicles or performing home remodeling, maintenance, or repair.

I'm pretty good at that stuff, but I see it as WORK, not play. A necessary evil of home and vehicle ownership.

The last thing I want to see on TV (entertainment?) is more of the same.
