Press Release
March 14, 2003

Dr. Jane Goodall to be featured at Bigfoot Symposium

Willow Creek, CA.: The Willow Creek China Flat Museum announced today that
Dr. Jane Goodall will be the keynote speaker at the Bigfoot Symposium to be
held September 12-14, 2003 in Willow Creek, California. Board President Jo
Ann Hereford said, "We were thrilled when Dr. Goodall accepted our
invitation." The symposium will feature an impressive array of speakers who
will address a variety of topics.

Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum from Idaho State University will discuss the evolution
of bipedalism and evidence shown in the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film of a
female Bigfoot in Bluff Creek near Orleans, California. Dr. John
Bindernagel, who was acquainted with Dr. Goodall while both were conducting
research in Africa, will describe the apelike behavioral characteristics of
Bigfoot. Mr. Jimmy Chilcutt, a crime scene investigator from Conroe, Texas,
will explain how he found dermal ridge evidence in Bigfoot casts. Other
presenters will address ancient "hairy man" pictographs, microscopic and
morphological attributes of hair attributed to Bigfoot, and methods of
examining photographs to determine whether Bigfoot pictures are the work of
hoaxers.

As an added bonus, a special panel of pioneer Bigfoot investigators has been
assembled to discuss their work in the late 1950s and 1960s. These include
Bob Gimlin, who was with Roger Patterson in 1967 when the Patterson-Gimlin
film clip was shot; Jim McClarin, the man who carved the first Bigfoot
statue for Willow Creek and investigated the Bluff Creek film site; John
Green, author and investigator for 44 years; and local Willow Creek
resident Al Hodgson. The panel will describe their work and observations
and field questions from the audience.

Reservations are limited to 320 attendees. Tickets are $125 and include 3
meals. Two special highlights include dinner Friday night featuring an
authentic Yurok Native American salmon open-pit barbeque, immediately
followed by a presentation on two new discoveries and forensic techniques
used on the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film footage by speaker Doug Hajicek.
Hajicek produced the Discovery Channel special about Bigfoot entitled,
"Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science." Saturday night, the Willow Creek Kiwanis
Club will prepare a classic deep-pit beef barbecue dinner, to be followed by
a presentation from speaker John Green.

Those interested in attending the symposium can obtain more information from
the web site, www.bigfootsymposium.com after April 15th, or by calling
530-629-2653. Tickets will go on sale April 15th and are available from the

Ditto!! mad.gif

[edit] My god, it reads like a who's who list of bigfoot research!! All that and Goodall!?!
jimf
Maybe I should email Craig and see how I could set one of these things up here in Fl. (I know it doesn't help you much B.) cost? how to get speakers etc.
bipto
OK, so purely hypothetically, if someone wanted to fly to an event in Willow Creek, what city would they be flying in to? San Francisco? Just wondering...
jimf
Its been awhile but I would guess Eureka or Redding ? RB,where you at ?
RB
I'm telling you guys... Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, etc... have deals on air travel all the time.

Realistically, between travel, motel , food and cost of admission, all this will set you back about 5 bills or so… unless you live close enough to drive like I do….

I can handle picking up 3 people and their gear in San Francisco or Sacramento or Redding or Eureka.

Sacramento or Redding is preferred.

We can have our own ride to Bluff Creek, if desired.

I will make the motel reservations and anything else that needs to be done here.

If you are interested, PM me and I will make it happen on this end.

Serious inquiries only please.

In the event of overflow of requests, I will attempt to arrange rental car details for your collective consideration.

You can't fly into Willow Creek commercially... Eureka or Redding is the closest. San Fran is the biggest... or Sacramento
RB
Update:

Already reserved a room... aren't credit cards awesome? wink.gif
tugboatwa
I have have already asked for vacation to be able to attend the Symposium in Willow Creek.

Now I have to come up with $125.00 for admission.

I figure it's about an eight-hour drive from Vancouver, WA to Willow Creek.

I know there is limited lodging in Willow Creek. Maybe the Motel 6 in Arcata, CA?

bipto
Which is closer, Oakland/SF or Sacramento? Hypothetically...

Hypothetically...

As the raven flies, not much difference… but much faster to Willow Creek from Sacramento.

Driving time to Redding from Sacramento is 3 about hours, another , ummm, guessing… 1 ½ hours to Willow Creek…. very winding roads…

Driving time to Redding from San Francisco is about 4 ½ to 5 hours, depending on bay area traffic… SFO is in So. San Francisco. And this trip takes you back towards Sacramento before you can turn north to Redding. If you drive up the coast to Eureka and then east to Willow Creek, it would probably take about 6 hours or more… winding roads and all, but very picturesque.

Sacramento airport is on I-5, just north of Sacramento… by far the easiest access to Redding… and for catching your plane on the return trip… don’t forget the bay area traffic, can take up to 4 hours to cross the bridge into town… if SFO is the airport, I would suggest a departure time out of the rush hours.

Oakland is closer than SFO, it is east bay...

Sacramento is actually a pretty decent little airport, not nearly as busy as OAK or SFO.

But, I'll pick you up anywhere dude... even Reno... ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Hypothetically... wink.gif biggrin.gif
bipto
Wow, RB, this is an interesting hypothetical conversation we're having here! Hmmm...look at all those hypothetical frequent flyer miles!

BTW, I've added the symposium to the BFF Calendar...
jimf
There's a calendar ????oh duh. there it is.(this ain't my day )
bipto
My day was kinda like that, too!

Hey RB, good call on the estimate! MapQuest says it's 5 hours from Sacramento to Willow Creek...

I'm in Sacramento, jim.....

...and I've got a seat in my truck with your name on it.... cool.gif

..no pressure, tho...

But do you really trust me with that crowd when you're not there to keep an eye on me? dry.gif

I just hope I don't get really drunk and put someone else's name on my "Hello - My Name Is" sticker again... icon_mrgreen.gif

Concerning the taping of the event, and other issues from Loren Coleman:
QUOTE
The Willow Creek steering committee and the Bigfoot Field Researchers
Organization (BFRO) has been developing and defining clarifications
regarding their interrelationship.  This has been confusing for those on the
outside, as most of us are.  As recently as today, one website still had
this event listed as a "BFRO meeting."  The fact the BFRO has not had any
final say on speakers ("scientific research and/or west coast activity,"
being the criteria used, according to the Willow Creek committee) or the
$125.00 ticket price ("includes three meals; no other option/price
available," per the Willow Creek committee) has been made clear by both
parties.
Here's the response from Matt Moneymaker on his understanding of the formal
relationship of the BFRO to this September 2003 gathering:

----------
QUOTE
From: Matt Moneymaker
Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2003 11:16:32 -0800 (PST)

Speakers from the BFRO will be gathering at Willow Creek to give
extended presentations about their scientific or journalistic projects.
The presentations will be videotaped and made available for purchase
later. People who want to see the lectures in person can do so, but
must buy tickets from the Willow Creek Museum staff.

The BFRO is not organizing the public participation part of the event
-- the ticketing and accomodations for people who want to see the
lecture taping live. The BFRO makes no claims and gives no assurances
about the convenience or comfort of the accomodations of the audience
members. Potential audience members must make all those inquiries and
arrangements directly with the organizers in Willow Creek.

The one hour lecture format will give the presenters more time to
explain the evidence than is typically available in television
programs. Presenters in the previous BFRO effort -- the documentary
"Sasquatch: Legened Meets Science" -- did not have enough time to go
into great detail about the evidence and their analyses of it, due to
the time constraints of television. BFRO Curator Jimmy Chilcutt, for
example, said he would like to give a longer presentation so his
colleagues in the field of fingerprint analyses can better see and
understand his findings. Other BFRO members have expressed a desire to
give longer, more detailed presentation, and make those presentations
widely available.

The BFRO is confident that it can document these presentations for
posterity if the relevant people arrange to meet in Willow Creek in
September, and we have a facility to use there. We cannot make any
assurances about the quality of the overall experience for anyone else
who might want to attend, but we hope it will be fun, comfortable and
worthwhile for everyone.
jimf
ummm, so can we bring our own camcorders and cameras ?I am finding a way to make this work,I'm going,I just have to work out the details. BTW how is it Craig always finds this info. wink.gif biggrin.gif
bipto
Well, if I end up going (and I've already made my hotel reservation) I'm bringing my video camera (and my computer, camera, and maybe some Oreos). They can tell me to put it away if they want...
RB
I'll hold your oreos for you if you need me to... I really don't mind.... icon_mrgreen.gif

That's all I needed to know... wink.gif

Thanks Craig. biggrin.gif
robo
Yeah, i think it's pretty normal for an event to be hosted by a different organization than the one that is 'highlighted' in the event. Kinda like a big trade show: Macworld is Apple Computer's big show, but it's put on by a company called IDG (not Apple)... Everyone goes there to see Apple's keynote and new stuff, but the conference itself is officially run by IDG, who determine who can do what, for what price.

I bet they'll make you put away your camcorder, bipto. It's unlikely to be that big of a room, so they'll see you sitting there holding your camera, and they'll throw you into the cage with the angry captive BF that they're going to unveil! smile.gif

But... a tape recorder or MiniDisc would probably work, if you kept it out of sight. I'd love to hear some MP3s of the lectures!

Good luck!

bipto
Yeah, you're probably right...SIGH.

Well, if I could just hit the freakin' lottery between now and then I'd have it made. Unfortunately, if that doesn't happen I'll be chained to my desk during the month of September since that's one of our busiest times of the year.
