Yeah - these pictures came out of France a few years ago - I think they were confirmed as a hoax, but I don't know the exact details.

They are the work of artist of cryptozoology artis Emannuel Casteels Janssen and are supposed to depict the Minnesoate iceman. They were not meant as a hoax but to showcase Janssen's talents. He has also made one of a huge sasquatch that is quite impressive.

Hi David,...

These are photos of the alleged "Yeti de Bourganeuf"

Here's a link to the complete article the photos were apparently extracted from:

BTW,...Greetings all! Been reading BFF for a few months and finally signed-on yesterday. IMHO y'all are a great bunch of dedicated, critical thinkers & doers who also clearly know how to have fun <g>.

My error in an earlier posting. My French needs work.

The item was exposed by Ammanuel Janssens Casteels as a hoax. I though he created it, but he did not. Here's the story from Michel reynal's Virtual Institute of Cryptozoology site:

The frozen mannikin (sic) of Bourganeuf

In 1997, what looked like a new version of the affair of the frozen man (this cadaver of a frozen hairy man shown in the US fairs, which Bernard Heuvelmans was able to study in 1968) occured... in France !

It was indeed a hoax, and amusingly, our Belgish friends of the ABEPAR (which publishes the journal Cryptozoologia) are (involontarily) responsible. Emmanuel Janssens Casteels, animal sculptor and a collaborator of the magazine, relates in the June to August 1998 issue of Cryptozoologia that two friends of his have helped people who wanted to make a giant copy of Bernard Heuvelmans's frozen man :

"In fact, it was a sculpture made with sponge rubber on which hairs of horse tail have been pasted. The eyes have been simply bought from a provider specialized in taxidermy."

Of course, a crazy story was associated with the "show" of Bourganeuf, whose creator had obviously read Bernard Heuvelmans's book.

Sorry Belle,

I'm not familiar with the friends of Bigfoot site. From your reaction, that particular group must be hoaky. I'll have to check out their site for myself. An individual sent these to me and I figured someone on the forum probably had knowledge of their origins. Sorry if the mention of these triggers some regressive bad memories and/or posttraumatic stress!

icon_really_happy_guy.gif

Although the head looks fake to me, the hand, arms and chest look convincing (except a lot smaller than I figure a male Sas would look) The missing genitalia is obviously a dead giveaway, however.

Thanks for the background information, Paul, WC and SOF...

If anyone else knows more about the story behind these pictures or the "Friends of Bigfoot" group please feel free to enlighten me.

Can you please elaborate further and point out how this is some toy in the water ?

Im not a photo expert but I can say that In my opinion I personaly feel this is the best photo of bigfoot to date and believe this photo is as real as it gets.

I cannot find any website wherein a field researcher or photo expert has proven it to be a fake and am wondering if anyone here can provide me with any info on this photo?

Steve

As I posted above look at the size of the blades of grass and
duck weed in comparison to the "Bigfoot"
IMO it is a hoax :yuck:

In Cliff's own words there were fourteen photos taken. Seven were purchased and copyrighted by him. According to Cliff, all fourteen were studied by a "photo panel", and later by un-named Japanese experts, who all concluded that there was no tampering with the photos.

The fact that there are alleged to be fourteen photos that have been independently verified by trained professionals and yet only a few have ever been made public speaks volumes IMHO.

I would be curious to know if anyone here has ever seen the entire series themselves.

I have seen one other. It was from a little different angle. The fact that the photo has not been tampered with only says that it is a real photo. That doesn't say the subject is real or not. A photo of a small model figure in the water is still a real photo that would show no tampering as long asn no one tampered with it.
I don't have the photos but I have seen one of a small model that looked very close to the one in the photo. Just glue on some hair and it would be ready for shooting.

Yeah I've seen the second angled shot as well, but nowhere have I ever seen or recalled hearing anyone else say they had seen all fourteen. And you're absolutely right, lack of tampering wouldn't change a thing in this case.

A couple of years ago I attended a model railroad exhibition here in Seattle. I was impressed with the methods and materials used to create the scenery as well as the little trains themselves. Some of the scenery was very realistic. Bodies of water are created with a resin of some sort. One of the ways that the model lakes and ponds differ from real water is that they all have a subtle matte finish that real water does not have. Even still, dirty water has a surface sheen that resin surfaces don't have.

The body of water that the subject is standing in appears to me to be more consistent with model maker resin than real water. Perhaps there are some model makers out there that can offer a more informed opinion than I can.

Oh, and uh, anyone old enough to remember the Rocky Horror Picture Show? HE HAS NO NECK!

I invite those that live near still, dirty ponds to post photographs for comparison.

I have seen all the photos that Crook purchased and the first thing I noticed was that during all the photos, the purported BF never moved an inch. Same elevation, same body stance, and it never moved a muscle. It just stood still like a good little BF and let them take FOURTEEN shots of him and never moved. Now that is a photographers delight. A model that can hold a pose forever.
