Hello all, I think I've found a huge historical archive...And I think I've only scratched the surface! smile.gif

How's this for a story? 1839 Captured 8' 3" Wildman with 2 "cubs!"

It's one of the most historically interesting stories I found, and one of the oldest. Sorry, but the left margin was cut off to start with (of course!) Maybe someone can access the Boston Times archives around this date? Read the DETAILS of what it looks like! WOW! I've found SEVERAL stories of captured wildmen from the around the country 1800s with interesting descriptions and will share them as well.

I may need to create a web page to show them all. (Unfortunately my 100 year old grandmother passed away on Saturday and I'll be occupied this week at her funeral in Wisconsin.)

Even though they "prove" nothing, the do show how far back these stories go and how they describe truely similar events across many years. I even found one where "a student" was speculated to haved donned a robe to scare people, and was "lucky he wasn't shot by the monster hunters!"

OK, this one could be a human I guess, but I found it's method of "hopping" very interesting...also, some of these are typically second hand, so the details probably go?

Not to mention that Chippewa Falls, WI is right next to Eau Claire, WI where I grew up!

keep digging awsome stories. it was like shooting quatches in a corral. much like our yearly buffolo hunt eaqch year where the luck tag holder gets to go to a 100 yard circle corral and bicks his prey out of a few choices and blamo. they very rarely miss and the tags r always filled/

There are clearly two kind of reports here. One is the "Monster" and the other is a "Wildman" although sometimes it seems they use Wildman for both subjects.

The most interesting by far is the first one. There's got to be some follow up on something like that!

Thanks Gael for the kind thoughts...she had a wonderful 100 years and went without pain and was "with it" all the way! smile.gif

Also, maybe no coincidence that I made my "find" the same day she died...

Thanks to all for the thanks...just doing my bit!

I'm going back to Wisconsin tomorrow for the funeral and will be able to fill you in more on what I found when I get back to post more.

Here's another, more recent article...but I thought it was very well written for it's time...1965!

Hello everyone...back again from WI, and had as good as trip as one could have, providing.

Anyway, I'll post some other interesting stories I found. Some early Patterson/Crew stuff and stories regarding huge tracks found in stone! I'm assuming the White Sands tracks are deep within Gov territory?! hmmm...

ALSO, here is the website where I found these. It has a 2-week free trial subscription (you have to fill out credit card info and call them if you want to "cancel"). Then it's $13 a month or $80 a year. They have quite a few newpapers scanned! You can download PDF files. I "extracted" the jpegs and they were 200dpi.
http://www.newspaperarchive.com

Also, I've emailed the Boston public library as it seems they have microfiche'd Boston Times from the June 25th date in 1839 of that Wildman captured report. I'll let you know if they find the original story...hopefully with the left margin intact! Anybody live in Boston?
