I respect all points of view Believer and Skeptic alike (so long as points made are intelligent) although after reading of this discovery how can it be said without a doubt that BF does'nt exist ?After all these chimps were thought to be myth yet there they are.

Very interesting article. Should provoke some good discussion on science blogs.
Whatever else chimps are they are survivors. If, as it seems, they are able to use their intelligence and social organizational/planning skills to that kind of an advantage it speaks well of it and suggests something much the same if not moreso for our own ancestors, and by dint of inherited mentality, something about us. Any bets as to how long before they collect a specimen for type? As with BF, the encouters have been by surprise and/or accidental, and non-repeated, and nobody seems successful at finding them when they want to, or capture them on trail cams or using any attractants to lure 'em in close, so whatever search protocol they are following it fails to achieve its goals...at least so far. Lots of interesting parallels. Similar problems might have similar solutions.

This article is over two years old and it appears to have turned out to be bogus. Otherwise, we would have heard more about these large chimps.

Surprising? Well in the sense that they are actually hunting big cats quite a bit, is one thing to go after a small monkey or even a hapless one of their kind from a rival gang and quite another to go after an apex predator. The hunting skills involved are quite different and quite a bit should I say it? Evolved if you will...

As Bigfootnis said, this is an old story covered multiple times here and those claims along with most others are completely untrue. See the Sqwiki entry for Bili chimps here.

I have just one question why did they call then Bili chimps? Was that the name of the region they were found? I know they turned out to be ordinary chimps but I'm curious as to how the name came about...
