I could use some help locating the places listed here: Western Canadian places I haven't found.
Until recently Western Canada has been greatly under-represented in my BigfootMaps project, but I am now working on the reports from the WCSRO. That group has compiled a commendable body of reports, however the location references in their published reports tend to be short on specifics, and online geographical data reference sources are somewhat scarce for Canada. So, even while I have already made considerable progress with the mapping, I have also had more trouble than usual locating place names mentioned in many of the reports. I hope that some of you following this sub-forum will be able to help me by supplying coordinates for any of these places that you are familiar with. Also, in some cases, I have found more than one place with the name referenced in the report so I need advice as to which is the correct one, i.e., help from someone with actual knowledge of the report specifics. Attached is a preliminary view of the WCSRO Google Earth map.

Thanks Flashman. You're a better Googler than I. The BCGNIS database found a couple of likely matches and several more possibles, i.e., with different spellings / variations. Tomorrow I'll see if Geographical Names of Canada database can solve any in the other provinces. |

I have the BCGNIS and some other BC name geodatum in a nice searchable format. You're right about the near matches and possible misspellings. There are a few names that I think are certain, but many have multiple locations and a few names came up empty. Here's the list with the geographic coords and the BCGS mapsheet (1:20000).
