I'd sure like to hear more than a few cryptic (bad pun) comments from APEMAN about this one...I think he probably has more close at hand ape observation than most of us.
Apeman...Does what the witness says about it's genital-centric activity ring true with you? I was thinking...That for a farm raised person, the description of the activity was naiive, and yet seemed to reflect what limited monkey (baboon) behaviour I witnessed in southern Africa. They seemed to spend ALOT of time waxing the old carrot. However, if I recall correctly, one of the things about the Ostman story that was compelling was his report of the older male's genitalia being somewhat...Well, small. "There's BOUND to be shrinkage!" :new_lmaosmiley: This seemed to jibe with the great apes, and I can't for the life of me remember who said that it was significant. Perhaps Byrne or Bindernagel. However, if I recall correctly, one of the things about the Ostman story that was compelling was his report of the older male's genitalia being somewhat...Well, small. This seemed to jibe with the great apes, and I can't for the life of me remember who said that it was significant. Perhaps Byrne or Bindernagel. Penis and testicle size in the great apes and humans has been correlated, partially, with family structure (among other considerations). Using these correlations we can infer (and mutually corroborate) some things about Sasquatch independent of other evidence. In harem family structures, the females all belong to an alpha male (e.g. gorillas), and he doesn't experience any sperm competition from another male, so he doesn't need big testicles. Harems also produce a larger sexual dimorphism. You've gotta be the biggest tough on the block if you want to hoard all those females for yourself. Among promiscuous family structures with many males (e.g. chimpanzees), all of the mature males, more or less (some have to be sneaky about it) mate with the receptive females. That makes alot of sperm competition, and sure enough, chimps have proportionately the largest testicles of the apes and humans. Where humans win out are our large penises (well, at least for some of us) This is hypothesized by some as a secondary sexual characteristic since we are bipedal and it's all out there in the open and a useful place for a sign of sexual health (which makes me wonder if human penis size has gotten smaller since the invention of clothes). Penises in the qaudrupedal apes, at least when unexicted, are pretty well hidden and wouldn't serve well in that category. They're as big as they need to be to get the job done. Human testicles are pretty average, which suggests that evolutionarily we tended not to experience that much sperm competition, suggesting either a.)harems, or, more plausibly considering modern humans today b.)different forms of near monogamy. Our sexual dimorphism isn't that great either, though, if I remember correctly, it may be slightly greater than in chimps (in bonobos, which are female dominated, the females are slightly larger). For Sasquatch, despite the story in this thread, genitalia are so small that it is usually, presumably, hidden mostly under the body hair. Based on other evidence, Sasq. testicles needn't be big, because their family structure is small, and, I'm speculating alot here, their resting state penis size isn't large because it will be covered by hair in any case (functionally out of sight, like with the quadrupedal apes). All that said, I haven't seen anything about the size of erect penises in apes and humans (everything before applies to to the unexicted state). "Waxing the old carrot." That's a good one Smitty. Personally, I prefer "Hoisting the jolly rodger." Sorry for the last bit. This post has been edited by tsiatkoVS: Jan 2 2007, 04:56 PM |

They lead a more solitary lifestyle so it'd be interesting to know (I can't find anything on that subject I'm pretty sure th story in this thread is implying that the subject in question had an erection, which is why the penis isn't tucked away as it is in most accounts. I have seen photos of Bonobos erect (as usual :new_tiredsmiley: ) and they didn't seem too much porportionetly smaller compared to humans. |
