So our good friends from the state of Rhode Island are finally represented in the BFRO database:
http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=6496 And boy is it a doozy. (Tell you what Msfit, don't even bother reading this one!) This leaves just Hawaii without a blip on BFRO... |

Damn.
I think that the creature was just running him off, if it had wanted to it could have picked him off that 10 speed with no problem. I've read reports were these creatures can keep pace with a moving vehicle, a guy on a 10 speed isn't going to outrun one of them. It's too bad that I can go to Rhode Island, I would jump at a chance to hunt a creature such as the one mentioned in that report. Thanks Bipto, it was a great read. |

Reminds me a lot of this one. Thousands of miles away, but very similar behavior - right down to the four-legged movement.
Hmm... |

Hey I read that already!
Am I wrong? It seems like every encounter where the creature either threw rocks/bluff charged/roared or basically behaved in a terrifyingly intimidating way had a man reporting it. And I am noticing my Golden Retriever will bark and put up her hackles at all men, but have no reaction to a woman whatsoever except to maybe stand behind me sometimes....this Golden is only 7 months old and I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. She has absolutely never been abused by a man in any way.... What is the point? Well, I think animals for sure know a male and react very differently than to a female. Therefore I feel a teensy weensy bit safer now Of course I have read reports of a creature like bigfoot trying to 'woo' a female human...remember the two girls having a picnic? And then when they ran and hid in their volkswagon the lovesick bigfoot tried to open their door? I don't think I even want to go there |

Awesome link Chronic
right now. My wife used to drive thru Whitmore village to get to work too. I drive on that road quite a bit too (wahiawa to waialua). That's at the base of the Waianae Mts, pretty wild and woolly place (for Oahu). They hunt wild pigs in that area still. I'm pretty sure the kid probably saw just some PO'd Samoan (BIG guys). FYI, the reteller of the tale, Glen Grant, just passed away. Awesome teller of local ghost stories (aka chicken skin tales). |

I also have this, but can't remember where I found it (typical)--
"Menehune: Popularly, they are described as playful pot-bellied hairy and muscular elves two or three feet tall, with bushy eyebrows over large eyes and a short nose with a trace of mischievousness. Some think that there is more to it than just a popular legend, and that the Menehune is some kind of Hawaiian mysterious primate." |

Menehune actually fit into the "little people that lived here
before us" category (i.e. elves, dwarves, etc). They figure into Hawaiian lore in much the same way, and are hardly ever described hear as anything other than mini-people with magic powers, and mischevieous |

Question ? (stop looking at me like that, you knew I'd ask.) On the original report was it actually investigated ?or just by phone or email ? .Obviously it was years later and some of the things in the account seem more than a little unbelievable (to me at least).Of course I pick apart everything but....

Jim, Glen Grant collected the story, he was big on ghost stories
and the supernatural in Hawaii and collected from that viewpoint. There would've been no follow thru on this... HM |
