Anyone out there using google earth for tracking encounters?
Google earth is a free tool that you can download (earth.google.com). It allows you to move to any place on the globe and see a satellite photo. Individuals who have information to share about interesting places can create thier own .kvm files that anyone can download then navigate to see the satellite photo for that area. For instance one individual has mapped all of the known Impact Craters around the globe. After downloading his .kvm file I was able to click on each one and the google application automatically navigated me to the satellite photo of the crater. Very Cool. |

I'll revive this thread by saying I find google earth to be helpful in my research. Anyone want to give any good coordinates of your favorite enoucter reports? or if you posted a report on BFRO, where is it? you can give the coordinates by pinning a marker and copy-pasting the coordinates.

The bad thing about Google Earth is that the pictures are really old. They open a new Wal-mart here a couple of years ago and it does not show up on Google Earth. The truck stop in the area has been gone even longer but it still shows in the pictures. The accuracy would not be good because of this.

Unless someone says they saw Squatchi in the electronics department at Wal-Mart it really shouldn't matter much... |

I find it very helpful, as far as getting a thorough idea of an area. And it makes me feel like I'm flying down from space!

I just looked at my house and the picture has been updated since the last time I looked. This picture I'm looking at now can't be more than a year old. I know because I put a swingset in my backyard about a year ago, and BING! there it is. |
